John McCain may have gotten himself back in this Race
He just received two pretty huge endorsements. One, he received an endorsement with Clinton from the Des Moines Register, and two he received an endorsement from the Boston Globe, which could help greatly in NH. Could this be the beginning of a turnaround for McCain? It just may be, and I hope to God its not.

1. Well it won't make me like him any better,
but, in his favor, his is probably the best of a very bad bunch.

2. Isn't Iowa supposedly virulently anti-war? Their selections are bizarre. nt

17. There are never any people from Iowa at our regional anti-war events
I didn't meet any in Chicago this summer at the UFPJ national conference. We have had a couple national events in St Louis and I didn't meet anyone from Iowa. They divided us up into regional groups and Iowa was in our region. I have also never met anyone from Iowa at Camp Casey.

That's not very scientific, I know, but if Iowans are so virulently anti-war, they aren't getting involved at the national level - that I know of.

19. Thanks. Maybe they're not so anti-war, but I thought I'd read that.
Your experience beats my memory!

20. Oh I have heard that too
Maybe they have an awesome movement and they just never leave their state. Who knows?

I went to school in Omaha for a couple years and had a bunch of friends from Iowa. They were more progressive than the kids in Nebraska but that's not saying much, since Nebraskans are REALLY conservative.

3. Well.. if you can show us data that newspaper endorsement changes races, I'll believe you...

But if we ran a list of the endorsements from year's past.. a few days after the endorsement, no one remembers --- no one cares --- and it has made little difference.

If you have data that shows otherwise, that would be cool to see though!

4. It could spark McCain to maybe a second place finish in Iowa and then spark him in NH
like Edwards' spark in O4.

9. After Huck in Iowa and McCain in NH it would be a two-man race out of the gate
I've been predicting since day one that Mitt and the Ghoul would be destroyed by each other in negative advertising... it's a Mormon abortionist versus a transvestite abortionist, fer gosh sakes!

It has looked like Huckabee versus McCain to me since way before it was cool.

18. Hmm.. you're probably right about Mitt & Ghoul..

Willard is too much of a flip-flopper, and Rudy's background will kill him.

I wonder if Huck and Muck will team up in end? (Huckabee & McCain)

5. Actually, the Demoines Register endorsement was a big, big deal for Edwards in 2004
He went from nothin' at the time to almost winning, so it certainly didn't hurt.

21. McCain??
Maybe you are thinking of a different John McCain? Cause the one I am thinking of wasn't even decent enough to speak out when Bush slammed his wife and daughter in the 2000 campaign. He's also a war monger and there's nothing decent about that.

12. Which republican do you think is way cooler than McCain?
McCain sucks, but if you're going to endorse someone in a Republican primary you're not gonna' get a real peach.

10. McCain would be the most formidable R nom of the group, IMO. Don't know
how our people might stack up against him in a debate...

11. These people want to see McCain v Clinton? Good lord, talk about the opposite of Hope and Change..
I'd leave the country if I thought I had to watch McCain battle Clinton for the WH. Just makes me shiver.

13. i'm not certain he'll win but...
i do think this will give him a boost. despite his poll numbers i strongly feel he's going to spoil in many states. he's going to take large chunks away from Mitt and Rudy and possibly Fred. i think his pull on Huckabee will be minimal; it will be a fair chunk, but minute compared to the 3 candidates i mentioned above.
