Des Moines Register has NEVER Picked A Dem Winner: "Kiss of Death" For Hillary?

Have to admit this is pretty funny. I bet Biden makes a joke about it tomorrow...

"Keep in mind that the Register NEVER picks the winner on the Dems side--never."

http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/the_stump/archive/2007/12/15/more-des-moines-register-endorsement-speculation.aspx

Is the DM Register endorsement the "kiss of death" for the Democratic candidate who gets it? Silly I know, but one must concede it is a long-running streak, outside of Tom Harkin's favorite son race in 1992.

The endorsement raises expectations for Hillary, making the likely upcoming loss to Obama a little bit worse.

4. She just can't win lately, this joke will be repeated and laughed over for the whole
news cycle. Just wait. Only because its so funny to bring up. But it kind of ruins what is otherwise an impressive endorsement I admit.

Say, anybody know what the Boston Globe endorsement record is??

19. Nope it's called spin
Every serious candidate does it and unfortunately American voters are so disengaged that it actually works.

7. it may not make her win but
the media in particular, CNN, will no doubt be saying Hillary is on her way to a comeback. CNN will pimp this endorsement to death, no doubt. That part sucks because it will be somewhat annoying, I don't really know if it will make a difference as far as the voters go though; it can though. It seems like it would make a bigger difference if this were the 1940s or something.

9. Oh, but they were!
You just must have missed the posts!

Oh, and none of the candidates tried to woo the board since an endorsement is something you NEVER want!

DO NOT FEAR AMERICA! Iowan's are smart, we know the Register is bogus, we have to read this crap everyday! Its a monopoly, the only paper in Central Iowa where 90% of the population dwells. We have to buy this piece of crap to get the sports scores and the comics. Dont worry about the endorsement, they screw it up all the time. They have no influence over us Iowans at all. Hillary will probably place third in the Caucaus behind Obama and Edwards. And poor McCain? His career was just put to sleep with Republicans by the ladies at the Register. Look for him to drop out of the race after he gets 1% of the Caucaus vote. Poor bastard, he is a true Patriot and Statesmen but just got the kiss of death from the female Linebackers at the Register.... Also, nobody on the Editorial Board or any of the Columnists or Reporters are from Iowa anyway. They all live in a Bunker under the Register's offices on Gannett Drive in Des Moines.

Kinda reminds me of some of the pleads going out to the world during the 2004 presidentials.

17. Except...
They have picked a winner. '84 they endorsed Mondale who did win the nom.

In '04 their endorsement of Edwards lit a fire under his campaign. He didn't win Iowa or the nom, but he went from way behind in the pack to a second place finish in Iowa.

The idea of "Register NEVER picks the winner on the Dems side" is simply sour grapes from the Hillary Hate Squad. If the DMR picked their candidate, they would be parading the endorsement for days on end.

18. No, it's the facts for the past 23 years that the Des Moines Register has never picked a winner.
Yes, now even FACTS are accused of being "from the Hillary Hate Squad."

Do I hear violins playing?

20. bwahahaha.
I don't agree with their endorsement, but your reaction? PRICELESS.

I don't believe there are a great number of genuine Clinton haters here, but you undoubtedly fit the definition, with your spewing of cheesy gossip and your fabrications.

What a pleasure it is watching you squirm.
