"A straying husband is bad. But a home wrecker is worse..."
NY Daily News: Women more willing to forgive Monica scandal than Judi Giuliani's trysts
BY HELEN KENNEDY
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Monday, December 17th 2007

A straying husband is bad. But a home wrecker is worse - at least when it comes to who should end up in the White House. That seems to be the judgment of women polled by the Daily News. More were likely to punish Judith Giuliani for trysting with the then-married mayor when she was Judith Nathan than Bill Clinton for cheating on his wife in the Oval Office.

The News' national poll of female voters found women - by a 40% to 35% margin - said Judith Giuliani's affair with Rudy made her less suitable to be First Lady. However, they were more forgiving about Clinton's adultery, with 42% saying his affair doesn't make him less suitable to be First Laddie and 34% saying it does.

"I think (the Giulianis) have a lot of nerve to think they can get elected when the Republicans won't let my poor buddy Bill alone for what he did," said Marie Klieman, 74, of East China, Mich. Maybe it's because many women think the Big Dog is under control now that he's had heart surgery and become an international statesman. Only 15% of respondents in the poll said they worried about another sex scandal exploding should the Clintons return to their old digs on Pennsylvania Ave.

The poll also found that many female voters like the idea of Bill Clinton taking on a role in his wife's administration, but they split on whether Rudy Giuliani's third wife should get involved in government. Hillary Clinton has said she might put her husband to work helping out with diplomacy, and 54% of women in the poll said they approved. But only 37% liked Rudy Giuliani's plan to have his wife, a one-time nurse, take a role in health care issues....

1. DM Mom, when I saw the title of your thread...
I really thought your piece would be about Henry Hyde...the birdbrain with his youthful indiscretion(at about 45).

Gingrich was bad too and Burton. There are so many to choose from on that side of the aisle.

3. "Maybe it's because many women think ...

Or maybe it's because many women think that what happens within the Clinton marriage is between the Clintons, and not a matter that has any bearing on the duties of fulfilling the responsibilities of the presidency.

Maybe it's because many women THINK, period.

6. I'd love to be a man, there will always be some woman.......
defending me no matter what I do.

How many men EVER put themselves out there to "defend" a woman's actions? Not many.......

Little tired of women always willing to be SO forgiving of the menfolk.

17. I've always enjoyed being a woman ...
... who had more than her fair share of men defending my actions, even when they were indefensible.

I don't think either sex has a corner on the forgive-and-forget market.

21. from what I've heard/read........
9 out of 10 women whose husbands cheated on them will take them back and forgive them....

yet 9 of 10 men whose wives cheated on them will not.

Now this can be debatable, but it does show a trend.

I'd still love to be a man sometimes, it would be easier. ;)

and my apologies for posting this tabloid piece (I thought I'd throw in a little something different tonight).

11. No apologies necessary!
That phrase just caught my attention as being part of the mindset being propagated by too many in this election.

I am FAR from being a Hillary fan - that doesn't change the fact that her personal relationship with her husband is none of my business.

The only reason people like Giuliani/Nathan are open to their relationship being discussed publicly is because THEY'RE THE PARTY OF FAMILY VALUES, DONTCHA KNOW.

Live by the tabloid-type headline, die by it. That's the way it goes, Rudy.

10. I'm with you on this.
And if HE cheated, that has nothing to do with HER (Hillary's) competence or reliability.

I don't have a problem with her staying married to him, either. Maybe they have a quiet open arrangement - that can be a great thing and my hat's off to anyone who can truly pull it off. :toast: Maybe he said he'd never do it again and meant it. Maybe sex just isn't the most important thing to them. Any of those ways, it's THEIR business.

14. Agreed, it IS their business.
And what no one wants to mention is the fact that Hil was damned if she did, and damned if she didn't.

Had she left Bill, she would have been the woman who couldn't stand by her man in the face of the same adversity that millions of married women face every day.

And by choosing to stay, she is equally damned for being the complacent victim, too oppressed to stand up for herself.

But in the end, there's only ONE issue that matters: OUTSIDE OF BILL AND HILLARY, IT'S NOBODY'S BUSINESS.

19. There's that too.
Either way, how about we stop blaming women for what their men do, and for not responding to it in some judgmental person's idea of what the "right" thing is?

He didn't kill a whale.

He didn't molest a child.

He didn't lie the country into war.

He had sex with a fellow consenting adult, who by all accounts (especially her own) was an enthusiastic participant. BIG WHOOP. Like he was the first President ever to do it, hah! If Hillary decides she can live with it, who is anybody else to tell her otherwise?

They should all keep their dicks in their pants, Dems and Republicans alike.

And I put Rudy and Bill in the same league ~ one just had an extremely understanding and/or tolerant wife.
