But the parties were forced to hold caucuses and primaries because of them.

11. Interesting....
The 40 years that primaries have existed are the exact same 40 years that the Democratic party has been in decline.

Maybe we need to take a serious look at that and ask why?

8. I sincerely hope you are wrong
The best thing that could happen to this party, and this country is if we do NOT get a repeat of 2004, with a front loaded process, rigged to leave us stuck with the weakest possible nominee, and open season on that nominee by the repukes for 9 months.

No nominee until Denver would be the best outcome. Hell, I might even be able to live with Hillary as the nominee if it was understood that she was actually the nominee of Democrats and not corporatists/media/DLC.
