I don't have a favorite candidate, but I have to say, I absolutely LOVE that Barack Obama's campaign song is Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered." The song is so uplifting, upbeat, funky - those horns, that guitar lick, the bass, the backup singers rocking it - it fills me with happy memories, joy and the urge to throw a party in my parents' basement!
And just as important, as a black Baby Boomer, I can't help but feel good about the fact that a major presidential candidate - one who has a serious chance to win - is identifying himself with a song by Stevie Wonder, one of the most brilliant, committed, and influential African American musicians in history. Stevie Wonder is an icon to many in our community - especially those of us who spent so many hours dancing to his music and learning from his lyrics. If someone had told me back in 1970, when we used to scream for my parents to turn up the car am radio whenever "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" came on so we could sing it at the top of our lungs, that one day, a man who could be president would end his speeches to the tune of that song . . . well . . .
So, anyway, I realize this has nothing to do with politics, or where Obama or any other candidates stand on the issues that we care about or who deserves to be the next president, but I just thought I'd take this little break to give a shout out to Sen. Obama for making me want to dance after I hear him speak!
