GQ magazine: the Hillary Haters
http://men.style.com/gq/features/full?id=content_6249&pageNum=6

On a screen in a back room of an upscale Dallas restaurant, a cartoon version of Hillary Clinton veers between bored and apoplectic. In the cartoon, in which she hosts a late-night program called The Hillary Show, her teeth are pointed, resembling fangs. She mocks everyone she comes across (including her “sidekick,” Howard Dean) and exhibits her violent streak by leaping out of a chair to bash Al Gore over the head with a wooden mallet, the “Hillary Hammer.”

“Another loser,” she says.

A knowing chuckle spreads through the audience of about fifteen local Republican activists and donors, including an associate of Karl Rove. Many of the attendees, mostly middle-aged and mild-mannered, wear nametags and anti-Hillary buttons on their suit lapels and silk blouses. The lights come on, and a tall, youthful 60-year-old man steps in front of the screen. Across his gray suit and broad yellow tie the projector beams Hillary’s scowling face and a White House seeped in bloody red.

“Wanted to reach out and involve you in our effort—in our Web site,” Dick Collins, a veteran Republican fund-raiser, says in his languid Texas drawl. He favorably compares his Stop Her Now Web site—a clearinghouse of anti-Hillary news, blogs, and cartoons, all with the mission of “Rescuing America from the radical ideas of Hillary Clinton”—to “the Swifties,” the nonprofit advocacy group the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which mortally wounded the campaign of John Kerry in 2004. He then proudly refers to the Stop Her Now banner, which his group has flown over a number of Clinton’s campaign appearances, as a way to attract potential supporters and irritate Hillary. “I’m sure she said to her aide, ‘We need to get a bazooka and take that thing down.’ That’s the real Hillary that nobody gets to see.” This wouldn’t be recognizable as a punch line in any other room, but supporters laugh approvingly and put down their white wine and orange cheese cubes to clap.

Collins thinks his use of “humor” will allow his anti-Hillary venture to succeed where others have failed, and that his cartoons and sight gags will ultimately play a major role in preventing Hillary Clinton from becoming president. “You do it with satire,” he explains to his guests. “Because it is a much more effective way to define somebody.”

Things like Limpy's Magic Negro, Obama dressed in Muslim gear, Osama picking Obama as the next president!

Sorry, I don't see Obama surviving these type of vicious attacks and attaining the presidency over a Republican.

14. Tellurian, I concur, and what the obama folks really need to ask
themselves is why the rnc, gop and the media are being so nice to obama? I have many times asked the question, "Just who do you think the racist gop would really like to run against? It is a shame here in 2007 there is still racism but folks it is alive and well in the gop. Don't believe me, then go ask Senator Ford if there is. Oh excuse me it is not Senator Ford from Tn. it is Senator Corker. (ford ahead by 2 in last 10 days and the RNC ran an ad showing a white blond headed woman and all she said was "harold call me" and folks that ad turned the tables against ford) Oh it will be a stealth campaign if obama gets the nomination but it will be there and as Charles Barkley once said, "In this election we are going to see just who the sexist and racist really are."

17. BenDavid, what Clinton supporters need to ask is:
Are the people who won't vote for Obama because he is black, going to vote for Hillary Clinton?

Can you think of a single person - anyone - who will bring out more of the rabid GOP "base" to vote than Hillary Clinton? Anyone?

Every Republican I know is hoping that HRC is the Dem nominee. Every one.

19. No, what you need to do is ask yourself... IS:
If Obama is the eventual Democratic nominee; can he survive the withering political attacks on his race, character, credentials and ethnicity? I say he can't. He's never been tested.

If Edwards is the eventual Democratic Nominee; can he survive the withering political attacks by the GOP on his Senate Record designating him a full on hypocrite representing a Senate Record diametrically opposed to his presidential campaign?

Besides the fact, Edwards will have many months of invisibility for lack of money defending himself countering attacks with tv ads and mailings. Nevermind, blasting the GOP nominee with negative advertising. Edwards will die a slow death under Republican attack for lack of money for counterattacks.

The only one left standing, ready, willing and able to stand up to the Republican attacks and the most qualified candidate in every way, attacking Republicans on their own turf until election day, is Sen Hillary Clinton..

We're voting for the best qualified person for president. We're voting for the right candidate who can survive the malicious Republican attack machine. AND...For someone with the right experience capable of getting the country's economy back on track as soon as possible! The only one who fills the bill IS Sen. Hillary Clinton.

You may not like her for whatever reason but the fact remains, she IS what we need at the moment to turn this country around to what it was when her husband, the former president, left office.

41. You are wrong on so many counts.
I do not think she is the best qualified. Hell, Richardson and Biden both blow her away on that score.

I do not think she can survive the Republican attack machine any better (and maybe a little worse) than any of the other Democratic candidates. In fact, the highly Republican county I live in I have heard many who are planning on voting for Hillary in our open primary so she makes the ticket.

I do not like her economic policies.

We cannot repeat the economy of the 90's no matter who is in charge.

I do not want to go back to the way things were. I am sick of the way things were.

It's not a personality contest. It is a policy contest. And she loses.

54. They won't believe they are voting against Obama because
he's black. The smear job will include race but not directly. For example, they'll make an accusation against Obama that would never be made against a white candidate. If Obama brings up race in his defense, they'll say Obama is playing the race card. They'll try to make it look Obama is fanning the flames of racial division to win. From there, many whites will see the race as an us versus them contest between whites and blacks.

When Obama first started running this year race was brought up constantly. The GOP desperately wants to make it about race and wanted Obama to slip up on an emotion driving question. Obama deflected that with amazing skill. He neither became a one sided advocate for blacks nor made excuses for racism. His keen insight was all he offered. Hearing it, the listener would be struck by his ability to see through the clutter of angry debate.

I admire Obama for standing up to it all and surviving so far. If I believed Hillary could win but Obama couldn't win because he's black, I wouldn't be one bit less inclined to vote for Obama. I refuse to yield one bit to unjustified hatred.

So it doesn't make any difference whether they'll go after Obama or Hillary or can beat one or the other. When I see that kind of evil I just want to fight back. I'd love so much to see those racists or Hillary haters forced to swallow an Obama or Hillary presidency that the risk of losing is worth it. Both candidates are adept at fighting back. I say let's play.

The Hillary-hating phenomenon is not just a right wing thing; when 40% of DUers claim they won't vote for Hillary even if it means a Republican wins the WH, the phenomenon obviously crosses the political divide. What is the unique thing about Hillary that makes both sides hate her so much? I think it's her gender that ultimately makes people hold her to a different standard.

What surprises me is that the left-wing of the democratic party has sided with the mainstream right-wing and uses routinely their talking points against Clinton.

Rather than looking at her record, they claim she is republican. Rather than listen to her words, they listen to the likes of these good ol' boys who likely hate their wives and mothers too.

50. Yes. And that would be one good thing about her being the nom...
....we'd get to see the full display of male juvenile frat-boy arrogance in all it's blazing stupidity. And it would be a huge national turn-off for women voters.

Give 'em enough rope...

56. And the lefty guys who also go in for the frat boy stuff would have to can it for once
These guys who call themselves liberal but love to objectify women and think we gals should lighten up about offensive jokes and comments about our appearance will have to refrain from their favorite pastime, lest they help the opposition. Just imagine how painful it will be for guys like Howard Stern and Bill Maher to have to show respect for woman who is *gasp!* mature and not a "hawt babe".
