Hillary Edges Out Oprah as Most Admired Woman in ‘07
http://www.gallup.com/poll/103462/Hillary-Edges-Oprah-Most-Admired-Woman-07.aspx

" With 16% of total mentions for most admired woman, Winfrey had her strongest showing to date in the current poll. But Clinton also had a stronger-than-usual score in 2007 -- the 18% who mention the former first lady is the highest since 2000 (19%). Clinton's best performance was in 1998, when 28% said they most admired her, just as her husband was being impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives in the Monica Lewinsky matter.

Winfrey has now finished second on the most admired woman list every year since 1997 with the exception of 2001, when she was third (to Laura Bush and Clinton). During that time, she has come within two percentage points of Clinton for the top spot on one other occasion (2004) and within one point on two occasions (2002 and 2005)".

Well..so much for Obamas major platform..Oprah!

1. how low our standards...
just because she's a woman and she's running for President, she gets accorded "admired" status. I could think of a lot of other women I'd admire more.

2. yeah, that witch!
why admire someone who had a long, successful career in public service, and has an actual chance of becoming a first woman president!

21. hey, you called her that, not me
Edited on Thu Dec-27-07 12:22 PM by boricua79
Sure, admire her. But I wouldn't admire her the most over others.

And just because she achieves Presidential status, doesn't mean I accord her much admiration points. Unlike you, I do not think being a President is the best thing someone can attain. And that is why I say that our standards our low, because Hillary is not the highest-almighty woman I've ever met or known about. It IS ok to say that, Hillary-worshippers.

10. But if you read the OP, it points out that Hillary has been running strong in this poll for years
this is not the first time she's been named most admired woman.

18. It's just Gallup being Gallup. In other words- laughable
It always amazes me that people still, after all this time- after all the stupid things that they've tried to con people about, jump to their tune and believe their bullshit like it was Gospel.

Seems to me that says a LOT about America and the sorry shape the country's in.

4. How silly
They've been edging each other out for a decade, at least. If Oprah were running for president, it might mean some little something.

5. Here are the rest of them:
"After Clinton and Winfrey, the remainder of the top 10 most admired women are Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (5%), actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie (3%), first lady Laura Bush (3%), former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (2%), former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto (2%), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, author Maya Angelou, and Queen Elizabeth II (all at 1%)."

Condi Rice, Angelina Jolie, Larva Bush and Margaret Thatcher?

17. The fact that Laura Bush is tied with Angelina Jolie,
a woman known not only for her philantrophic work but for being the alleged "third party" in the Brad Pitt/Jennifer Aniston divorce, speaks volumes.

24. it reads like a list of popularity
Edited on Thu Dec-27-07 12:27 PM by boricua79
The only ones I'd accord some respect to in that list are Maya Angelou and Angelina Jolie. Maya for her amazing literature work, and Angelina for using her celebrity and fame for humanitarian purposes. I find little to be admiring of Condoleeza "sell myself and my race" Rice, or Laura "all I did was be a good housewife to a Republican" Bush, or Margaret "god, how I love playing wargames" Thatcher. Nancy "honey...have you seen my spine?" Pelosi or Queen "never wiped my own ass" Elizabeth II certainly wouldn't get my respect.

As for Bhutto...I know she was a corrupt person...but she as of late tried to do good in her country, and in light of her recent assassination, I'm inclined to raise her admiration points.

The majority of that list is a bunch of worthless women who excelled at being just as traitorous or bully-like as their Good Ol' Boys network of men they dethroned. Nothing to be admired there.

6. Oprah scored higher with Republicans.
But even then 6% of Republicans named Clinton the female they admire most.
Polls are funny.

8. Like I said... polls are funny.
Could be that 6% of Republicans didn't understand the question...

15. Also,
"For the sixth consecutive year, Hillary Clinton was named the most admired woman in the world in a Gallup poll released today. She was picked by 18 percent of respondents, her highest standing since 2000.

"Americans know Hillary has been fighting for children and families for 35 years," said Clinton Campaign Manager Patti Solis Doyle. "They admire her commitment and strength to make change."

It was the 12th time Clinton has been named the most admired woman in the world. She has finished first or second in each of the last 15 years.

Gallup has asked the most admired man and woman questions in all but two years since 1948."
