A. Alexander, December 26th, 2007
It would appear that America's corporate-owned media is going to pretend that the nation's tattered image abroad has nothing to do with the guy currently occupying the White House. Do these people posing as journalists, anchors and editors honestly believe that no one can see through the propaganda? The corporate media honchos must think that they're too smart for everyone; otherwise there is no way that they would print a headline like this:
"Bush Seeks to Restore Tattered U.S. Image With Heavy '08 Travel"
Bush to restore tattered U.S. image ... George W. Bush? Umm ... here's a clue: Bush IS the tattered U.S. image. If he wanted to "restore" the "tattered U.S. image," he would send Cheney to Congress to be impeached and then, without pause, resign as President of the United States. Those two simple acts and ten or eleven generations later and maybe, but only maybe, the nation's "tattered" image might begin to recover.
When people around the globe think of America, they think of Mister Bush and then they think of tortured human beings; they think of Bush and then they think of an illegal invasion and occupation of a country that did NOTHING to the United States; they think of Bush and then they think of secret prisons; and they think of Bush and then they think of the U.S. doing everything imaginable to undermine any hope of finding a solution to global warming.
Yet, the corporate-owned media persists in its insistence that Mister Bush isn't the problem with America's global image. Instead, they peddle Soviet Pravda-like headlines that say Bush is setting out to rescue the United States' image. If they think they're conning the American people ... okay, at least a few. But if the corporate-owned media folks really think that they're fooling the global community, they're downright daft!
Sending Bush out to "restore" the "tattered U.S. image" is like sending Senator Larry Craig out to "restore" peoples' faith in marital monogamy. Actually, it is like sending out disgraced former Republican Representative Mark Foley, known for stalking teenaged boys, to "restore" a child's lost innocence. Indeed, sending Bush out to "restore" the "tattered U.S. image" is like sending the Grand Wizard of the KKK out to "restore" race relations.
What's next: "Corporate-Owned Media Seeks to Restore American Peoples' Faith in Journalistic Excellence"?
Oh, well, corporate-owned media probably believes that the people are ignorant enough to fall for that too. Sadly, too many people are probably just about that ignorant ... and they all believe that Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are honest men.
