On 12/5 when I pointed out the intent of those using BHO or Hussein when refering to Obama. . .
. . .I was ridiculed, but now it appears I was right to be suspect of those refering to Obama as BHO or Barack Husseing Obama. I ask again, why don't we use the the middle name of Edwards, Dodd, Biden, Richardson or Kucinich? Hmmmmmm

3. I agree--and I think they use "Hillary" to diminish her.
People of power are referred to by their last names. The maid and pool-boy are called by their first names.

Does her campaign think shes the maid or the pool boy?

Her web site is HillaryClinton.com

Are you denying that in our culture use of the first name is significant?

And how can you, in one breath complain about the use of Obama's name, and yet give a pass to the treatment they are giving Clinton?

11. Your China example really doesn't back up your point.
Glad you bring up HillaryClinton.com

Go there!!

Whats does that top banner say?

Hillary For President.

What does her campaign signs and buttons say?

Hillary For President.

What does the banners at her campaign events say?

Hillary For President.

Calling Barack Obama, BO or Barack Hussein Obama is meant to take a dig at him. Calling Hillary, Hillary...her OWN campaign puts "Hillary" on almost EVERY piece of campaign material possible.

Her damn logo has her first name plastered all over it. Not Clinton. Hillary.

http://www.joebiden.com/getinvolved/join
“join Joe’s campaign.”

http://www.richardsonforpresident.com/newsroom/articles
“Bill in the News”

http://johnedwards.com/about/john/
“John is the one candidate…”
“John is ready for…”

They all use their first names. We, do not, as it is disrespectful, too familiar. Demeaning--except in the case of Clinton.

15. None of the ones you listed have logos with JUST their first names, like Hillary.
That alone defeats your point that calling her Hillary is demeaning.

If so, her campaign is being demeaning towards her.

22. How is Hillary demeaning?
It's her first name, and her campaign openly uses it on her logo. And on every piece of campaign material.

If her campaign uses Hillary to seperate her from her husband, why can't DUers?

The only reason this is different from DUers using Barack's full name is because they use it to ACTUALLY demean him by calling him Barack Hussein Obama.

It's not like we're calling her HITLERy (someone on DU called her that once) we're calling her it because her campaign does, and because it seperates her from her fine husband--Bill.

So if I call John Edwards, John...am I demeaning him?

24. Seriously. Let's start with the premise: it is inappropriate for people who are unfamiliar with
a senator, or a boss, or a judge, or a President, to call them by their first name.

One of the ways to demean someone in that position, is to call them by their first name--like you do the "help." The maid always says, Mr. Kerry2008 and Mr. Kerry2008 calls the maid, "julie."

So, in the context of this race, where no one is calling Biden, "Joe," except Biden on his website, it is demeaning. It is an attmept to reduce her, to put her on a different footing than the men.

She is akin to the help. They are respected.

It is an old trick, used in business, to demean women.

27. So it's OK to call the boys by their first name, but not Hillary?
Even though her own campaign uses Hillary more than anyone?

I'm at her website.

The top banner says Hillary for President.

There is a place that says Join Team Hillary.

A advertisement called The Hillary I Know.

Be a HillRaiser is on the side, which Hill=Hillary.

A ad for her official Hillary gear.

Every one of the events on her upcoming event calender calls her by her first name, Hillary.

An advertisement for Women for Hillary.

An advertisement for HillaryHub.com. NOT ClintonHub, HillaryHub.

Hillary, Hillary, Hillary.

That's what her campaign consistently calls her.

And thats just on her FRONT PAGE.

So is her campaign demeaning her too? Or are you going to suggest they think she's the maid of this campaign as well?

8. I think a person's middle name should not make any difference
and if it is something he doesn't use himself, such as Hillary Rhodham Clinton which she uses sometimes, then there would be no reason, no reason absolutely for anybody to use that name.

And are they so stupid to not know that Hussein is the same as John or Joe in America and thousands, if not millions of Muslims have it. And it is only in the mind of people who would want to think it is negative that it is being thought of that way.

Just like the people who used the name Hill Shill to describe Hillary. It is only in the negative thoughts of those type of people. Hillary doesn't let it bother her..

If I was Obama I would say that it is my middle name, it was given to me at birth, and I never use it. There is nothing negative about it and those that think so don't matter to me at all...and let it go at that.

16. None of the candidates of either party is free of "Swiftboatable"
opportunities. Barrack, of all of them, has the least baggage (the land deal that will be made into something it's not) and the most idiotic (middle name, lived in Indonesia, was within 5 miles of someone practicing a religion other than fundamentalist christianity). The name thing drives me nuts, though. How's a newborn child supposed to give himself a politically beneficial name?

33. BTW, I remember your original post on 12/5 and agreed wholeheartedly. Still do.
Let's not kid ourselves or get waylaid by semantics. Since Obama is not in the habit of using his full name
and is generally known as "Barack Obama," when someone makes a point of using his middle name, they are doing it
to be a rabble-rouser.

IMO, it's so obvious as to make a fool of anyone arguing against that point. Why else do it?
