Have Democratic Presidential candidates tossed George Lakoff by the wayside?
I don't see his strategies on framing being used by any of the candidates. Or am I just missing something here?

1. Apparently Edwards hasn't...
Via email from Lakoff's own Rockridge Institute:

Dear Rockridge Community,

Thank you. Some 400 of you have contributed to Rockridge this year. We exist because of you. You make it possible for us to affect the political discourse in all the important ways we do.

For those of you who haven't yet pulled the trigger, now is the time. But please don't wait any longer. Time is running out to make your tax-deductible gift this year!

And to remind you, we have a matching pledge in place, so your gift will go twice as far. This match covers one-time gifts and even recurring gifts through 2008. Let's make the most of this generous matching pledge. And let's secure Rockridge's financial future.

So what did John Edwards say? Three days ago, in a front-page article in the New York Times, 2 Candidates, 2 Fortunes, 2 Views of Wealth, John Edwards offered this:

"Some people come from nothing to being wildly successful and their response is, 'I did this on my own.' I came to a different conclusion. I believe that I did work hard, and I think people should work hard, but I think my country was there for me every step of the way."

Sound familiar? In our widely distributed and much-praised article, Progressive Taxation: Some Hidden Truths, we examined the myth of the "self-made man." We observed that every person who has earned a great deal of money got a big assist from the institutions that our government and tax dollars make possible. Specifically, we said:

"An important point often lost in this debate is an appreciation that the commonwealth, which our taxes create and sustain, empowers the wealthy in myriad ways to create their wealth."

This understanding is fundamental to a progressive worldview.

So is the understanding of health care as a basic right that cannot be entrusted to a set of private companies whose profit derives from the denial of care and coverage. So are the various insights into the environment, immigration, and democracy that we will publish in the next months.

Have we earned your support? We hope so. Please give now to sustain our work.

From the Rockridge family to yours, wishing you a happy new year.

2. Edwards probably learned a lot of the same principles Lakoff

teaches from being a trial lawyer.

But, Edwards seems to most closely follow what Lakoff advises. That does not mean that Edwards owes Lakoff anything. Could just be that the fundamentals are common to Lakoff and to Edwards.

4. This is encouraging...
Edwards probably just needs to use a few more small words to help seal the deal.

3. Lakoff's strategies will be most important in the general election
Let's hope our campaign make the best use of Lakoff then.
