Only Obama has been certified to be on the Rhode Island Primary Ballot -- today was the deadline
Edited on Wed Dec-26-07 10:08 PM by ClarkUSA
The AP reported this past Monday :

Most presidential candidates are yet to qualify to appear in Rhode Island’s primary ballot.

The Providence Journal reports on its web site that as of Sunday, just three candidates had submitted at least 1,000 signatures
required to qualify for the ballot. The deadline for submitting the signatures is Wednesday... The secretary of state's office
reports that only Democratic front-runners Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton and Republican Rudy Giuliani have
submitted the necessary signatures.

Here is a list from the Rhode Island Secretary of State office: http://www.sec.state.ri.us/candidates/presidential/

While Giuliani and Hillary "have submitted the necessary signatures" they have not yet been given the green light to appear on the ballot
pending signature certification.

What's up with the rest of the field? Is it that difficult for the other campaigns to collect 1000+ valid signatures? That's not very much
compared to some other states. Virginia, for example, requires the signatures of 10,000 registered Virginia voters from across the state
with at least 400 signatures coming from each of its 11 Congressional districts.

3. Hillary and Rudi submitted the necessary # of signatures but they haven't been certified yet.

Their signatures have to be checked out first. Look at the list here: http://www.sec.state.ri.us/candidates/presidential/

5. Thanks for the link! I've just switched candidates to Raymond Stebbins
I love an underdog. Now, can anyone tell me who Raymond Stebbins is?

2. Seems like a lack of effort by the candidates.
I cant imagine any of them couldnt get 1000 signatures. Maybe RI doesnt have enough delegates for the candidates to care. It would be despicable if that were the case.

4. The either or choices you gave also ran through my mind.
Edited on Wed Dec-26-07 09:35 PM by ClarkUSA
I hope it's the former and not the latter, too. Even so, I can't imagine it's that difficult to get 1000+ signatures in an overwhelmingly
Democratic state.

10. Reminder: try to find info on every other non-primary state.
I think the 'true' Obama supporters made this happen, and it's terrific. I don't imagine there's a lot of activity in states that don't mean anything as far as primaries go.

And yes, I'm voting. When is that again?

Oh yes, here!

11. Many of the other 'campaigns' are being exposed as lacking real grassroots support

Where is Kucinich's legion of supporters? Where are all of the Fred Thompson supporters?

12. Christmas - Weather
"All the national campaigns tell us that Rhode Island and New York are the hardest two states to get into," state GOP Chairman Giovanni Cicione told Political Scene. "These signature dates fall right into the holiday period. ... It's hard to get people to stop to sign when they're out there shopping for the holidays. Weather's also been an issue."
