Huckabee: "'Don't get in my way,' he said while pointing to the three dead birds."
CNN: December 27, 2007
Huckabee goes hunting

WASHINGTON (CNN) — It's become a campaign staple for all presidential candidates: perform an activity that demonstrates 'regular-guy' status. Republican Mike Huckabee took his turn Wednesday, going on a pheasant hunt in Osceola, Iowa during which the Arkansas governor made it clear he is no stranger to the great outdoors. "Maybe it will show that I certainly understand the culture of being outdoors," he said of the expedition. "It's not something we had to go out and get a primer in. It's very much ordinary to me."

Huckabee's team brought back three pheasants — one of which the candidate claimed he personally shot — and promised they'd be "cleaned and eaten."

Huckabee, who polls show continues to hold onto his lead in Iowa eight days before the state¹s caucuses — also joked the trip could serve as a metaphorical campaign message. "Don't get in my way," he said while pointing to the three dead birds. "This is what happens…You vote for me, you live. You don't…there you go."

Huckabee said he was as a lifelong hunter, a statement that harkened back to rival Mitt Romney's similar claim earlier this year. The former Massachusetts governor later backtracked from that statement, saying he had only hunted "small varmints" occasionally.

Huckabee's rise is fueled in part by his "normal guy" appeal, and the governor took the opportunity to reinforce his heartland roots. “People in Middle America feel like folks will come and campaign in Iowa, and then they get elected and they forget that people out here in flyover land still exist," he said. “Some of us grew up in the middle of the country and still live here."

6. Hahahaha
Good one.

Seriously, though, I'm wondering if this was a canned shoot or not.

10. they weren't lawyers ... or friends ...
I'm sure, though, that the pheasants were forced to apologize posthumously ...

2. Huckabee does appear more or less normal, but he's also the average made
lethal, to steal Peter Shaffer's phrase.

At best, he's fiercely average.

I think it's much worse than that, though. I think Huckabee is sociopathic, not unlike Bush. He seems different than Bush becaue unlike Bush, Huckabee can speak on his feet. But what comes out of his mouth is the average made lethal.

I'm hoping his GOP opponents will whittle him down to size real soon.

15. Hi, wienerdoggie. Your heebie-jeebie machine is working extremely well,
IMO.

Those eerie vibes it's picking up with Mike Huckabee is indication that the man's mind is askew.

The over-the-weekend pheasant hunt really was a freak show.

7. Regardless what you think of Ron Paul
he nailed it when it came to Huckabee - "When facism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and come carrying the cross".

And with the unlimited power, thanks to Cheney and his minions, that is now granted the executive branch, who will stop him?

I fear this man will be the next President. His campaign has come from nothing. Someone important is backing him in secret. We will have the same bastards back in the White House next time unless we impeach Bush and Cheney now!

8. The hunting photo op was laughable except for the fact birds died.
They threw the poor things right in front of his face. You'd have to be a blind guy not to hit them. I've come to the conclusion Republican men must have the smallest . . . you know . . . on the planet (sometimes referred to as "mosquito dick" - LOL). They overcompensate with all the testosterone-driven talk of war and the manly slaughter of innocent creatures. Disgusting, disgusting individuals.

12. They do seem to be compensating for something.
Although how killing animals makes your member bigger is unclear to me. Maybe it just makes them feel better about it. "I may be tiny, but at least I can kill innocent animals that were raised to be slaughtered!"

Just as you say, disgusting.

9. "Ah'll have junior tie yew up an' slit yer throat, lak a dam dawg.."

I think the Huck Junior dog torture story is very revealing about the
Christian values of the Huckabee home, and I can't wait for the
Dems to tattoo that all over him.
