A great woman has been murdered!
And still the bullshit in here keeps flying.

Attacks on Hillary, attacks on Biden, attacks on Obama .......

Bhutto is DEAD! She was murdered in cold blood.

LET HER REST IN PEACE AND SHUT THE FUCK UP!

2. I'm fairly disgusted that American politics would be brought up here at all in this tragedy.
I agree...this is a horrible death. Let her rest in peace and the people of Pakistan to mourn her death in peace.

5. So sad that such a beautiful woman be taken down
for her ideals and vision for her country. So sad.

8. I think in her heart she knew this would happen.
She really gave her life for her nation.

7. In HER country
her death should not be used by a bunch of arm chair knee jerk politicos on a web site to prop up or take down presidential candidates in THIS country.

9. True. But she was a voice for democratic reform. She would want that
standard to be raised even higher now. I think that you honor her memory by carrying on her fight wherever it may be. I regard her as very brave and inspirational.

But I do agree with you, using her death to further personal politics is very poor form - very macabre. One does not have to use her name to fight for her ideals. They are universal and stand on their own.

11. The standard is not raised by "Obama is inexperienced" or "Hillary is a calculating
witch" talk. That stuff is destructive to democracy.

22. I agree
I've read some of the other thread subject lines and it just seems so self-absorbed, as though the only way to view Bhutto's murder is to reflect on its effect on OUR politics.

20. maybe not so great a person
Edited on Thu Dec-27-07 05:27 PM by mpendragon
I'll say she was brave and I'll say that she was probably a decent leader and she did a lot for Muslim women if only by example but she was also probably pretty corrupt. A brutal death doesn't make someone a great person.

21. Corruption charges were brought by her political enemies
It's hard to say which if any of it is true. The Wikipedia article you sight even indicates that Bhutto's assertion that evidence was fabricated was supported by some investigations.

28. lots of money and other countries
She had a shit load of money in Swiss banks without a great explanation (she actually lied about her foreign assets) and that's pretty fishy to me. I don't know how many of her political enemies were Swiss and Polish but they seemed to think she and her husband were up to no good.

She may very well have been a fine leader for Pakistan but I wouldn't go into business with her. In general I'm just reluctant to call anyone, especially politicians, great.

32. I'm just suspicious of the charges
I think her enemies in Pakistan would go to the lengths of forging evidence which is what she claimed happened. Some of what she was charged with may be true, but I have my doubts about the truthfulness of much of it.
