Pizza Hut ad makes fun of Dennis Kucinich and UFO's
Edited on Sat Dec-29-07 04:13 PM by 2rth2pwr

A new Pizza Hut ad (see YouTube video below) that uses slices of presidential debate commentary to tout a cut-rate pizza deal has angered backers of Cleveland Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

"Are people seeing lower prices now?" the announcer in the ad asks before cutting to a debate segment where Kucinich says: "More people in this country have seen UFOs."

I am going to encourage all Kucinich supporters to boycott your restaurant until you change your “debate” advertising. That was a low blow to a viable, electable presidential candidate. Consider the word OUT! I also think Pizza Hut should publicly apologize to the Congressman! http://dandelionsalad.wordpress.com/2007/12/27/derogatory-ad-featuring-congressman-kucinich-video/

31. It's worse than 79 cent "cheese flavored" frozen grocery store pizza.
The first time I had a Pizza Hut pizza, I said, "But...this isn't really pizza. Why are they calling this pizza"?

They are anti-reproductive rights, for one thing. This has been known for years.

On edit: Dominoes is the anti-reproductive rights company. I confused one lousy pizza with another.

12. Sure you don't mean Dominos?
Pizza Hut is owned by Yum Brands (w/ Taco Bell and KFC). Formerly part of Pepsico.

Dominos was founded by a hardcore fundie.

15. Actually, I'm going to disagree. If a big-money advertisement puts Dennis on the screen
for a couple seconds LONGER than the other candidates, I say that's a good thing. It's not bad publicity. The making fun of him for UFO shit is such a non-gainer...most Americans believe, in some way, that UFOs exist.

Shit, Pizza Hut, suckage that it is, is the only entity giving Dennis more time than the others.

The average American won't be turned off of something/someone over an embarrassing soundbyte. Look at Tom fucking Cruise?

any part of the story. Neither has Kucinich.

McClain and Kucinich are good friends, why would she leave a false story out there that he could deny?

16. I already boycott Pizza Hut
My stepson was an assistant manager there forever, always sent from one failing restaurant to another, always turning things around. He was promised a managerial position in the next store he went to. Instead, they told him he had to work on his birthday (he'd requested the day off six months before) to train someone else to be the manager of that store. He quit in disgust. I've boycotted the chain ever since.

Edited on Sat Dec-29-07 06:59 PM by democrat2thecore
I like many of his positions, but I like a lot of the positions from a man down the street too. That doesn't mean I think the guy down the street should be president.

Kucinich is a wayyy out there Shirley McClainer new-age kind of guy. Most people find that flakey. Like walking on the House floor and telling everyone he just KNEW that he met his next wife. "I know she's the one." People were embarrassed for him. It's just - well - weird. He's excitable like a little kid. Shallow on issues except those he is passionate about. He simply is NOT presidential material. All our other candidates are, imo. Dennis Kucinich? President? It's a comical notion to me.

Flame away - but we're all entitiled to our opinion.

Edited on Sat Dec-29-07 08:15 PM by no name no slogan
I've actually met him and had conversations with him before (I worked on his 2004 campaign), and he's a fairly down-to-earth guy. Say what you want about his supporters or positions, he is quite normal.

BTW, MANY people I know have known that they've met "the one" when they've met their spouses/partners, and have said as much to their colleagues, so that's really not that unusual.

For pimping it's crappy, obesity laden products to kids....

In the midst of rising concerns about childhood obesity and school commercialism, the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood is urging parents and educators to end their school’s involvement with Pizza Hut BOOK IT! programs. The advocacy coalition wants Book It out of schools because it promotes bad eating habits, uses schools to market a corporate product directly to students, and is educationally counterproductive by undermining their interest in reading.

“Any one of these issues is a serious concern,” said CCFC’s co-founder Susan Linn. “Taken all together, it’s clear that Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT! has no place in schools.”

Reaching 22 million school children in 900,000 classrooms each year, BOOK IT! is one of corporate America’s most insidious school-based brand promotions.
