TINE, Iowa --Jill Goldesberry knows she has an important job. That's why she's worked hard to get ready.

To prepare for Thursday's Democratic caucuses, she has gone to see every candidate but one. She has read position papers, compared health care plans and visited Web sites.

"As an Iowan, we have a responsibility to find out about these candidates," she said Saturday as she awaited an appearance by former N.C. Sen. John Edwards.

Goldesberry is among an expected 235,000 caucus-goers who will have an outsized say in the selection of America's next president. Iowa will propel the top finishers into the blur of primaries and caucuses to follow. The others could see
