Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) endores Hillary Clinton
Source: The Hill

DES MOINES – Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) became the 10th U.S. senator to endorse Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s (D-N.Y.) presidential bid Monday.

“Hillary is ready to address our energy challenges on day one with a bold, comprehensive plan to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and move America toward a renewable energy future,” Cantwell stated.

Clinton is locked in a three-way tie in Iowa with Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.).

“The fact that 10 U.S. senators have endorsed Hillary in the midst of a heated primary race speaks volumes—they know that she is ready to lead this country on Day One,” the Clinton campaign said in a statement. “And most importantly, they believe she is the most electable Democrat in the field.”

6. Maria Cantwell is Joe Liebrman in drag

Voted in favor of the Iraq War, the Patriot Act, NAFTA and CAFTA, voted against the Kerry-Feingold Amendment that would have set a timetable for Iraq withdrawal, voted in favor of the bankruptcy bill, etc.

11. Maria Cantwell worked to defeat opening up Alaska to drilling
Marie Cantwell took on Enron when they tried to cheat WA in that energy fiasco.

Cantwell is an awesome Senator.

20. Yup, fellow corporatists stick together!
She had to have her vote counted both ways on Alito nomination! If she amongst a few other Dems were to vote CONSISTENTLY between the cloture and final vote, we would have had a fillibuster then. That was her way of being "bipartisan" as the DLC has warped that term so much over the last few years!

10. I'm from Washington....

And I've emailed Cantwell on a few issues before. While I often hear back from my other Senator (Patty Murray), I can't remember the last time I got anything from Cantwell. Her endorsement means nothing to me.

FS

Edit: A quick check of my inbox (I never delete mail from elected officials) shows what appears to be a personal (or personalized) response from Patty Murray on July 21 regarding a letter I sent her opposing Iraq war funding. I sent an email to Maria Cantwell at the same time. No response.

13. I am from Washington also
When Cantwell was running for office in 2006 I wrote several letters. What I got back were the basic form letters addressing whatever issue I was asking about. I also wrote Murray, but only got back one reply from her.

After the election I have not received any reply from Cantwell, but Murray, who is up for election again in 2008, "is" writing back to almost every email I have sent. I feel the same as you, Cantwell's endorsement means nothing to me. I pretty much figured she would be supporting Clinton.

Actually as far as I am concerned no endorsement will make me change my views on the candidates. I will vote for the person that I think is best suited to address the issues we face, and one who will stand up for the people, not corporate America.

16. I'm not from Washington but....
from Oregon and I can tell you I call our Senators from the Pacific Northwest all the time and I do get a responds from them. Why don't you try calling her? Seattle=206-220-6400 Washington DC=202-224-3441 I have their numbers in my cell phone, that way if they do something that is bad or good I try and give them a call and tell them how proud or piss off I'm. It does wonders.

19. Another Washingtonian here
I have to laugh my ass off every time one of the Hillbots brings up the "sexism" crap, being from a state with a woman governor and two female senators, all of whom I voted for.

Can't say I'm all that happy with either senator recently, but (as it is with Hillary) that's because of their votes and not their gender. And Chris is no worse than Gary Locke. Not much better either, unfortunately. But she was preferrable to the pawn of the California developers who tried to steal the election.
