Edwards: When You Rise Up And Take This Country Back For The Middle Class You Will Be Unstoppable
John Edwards for President
Wednesday, January 2, 2008

----
Mount Pleasant, Iowa – On the second day of his 36-hour "Marathon for the Middle Class," Senator John Edwards delivered the following remarks at an event in Mount Pleasant, Iowa:

"There are people and corporations and powerful interests in Washington and all over this country who think their position in power on the top of the heap is inevitable and unchangeable. What I know is that when you rise up to take this country back for the middle class, you will be unstoppable."

After more than 24 hours on the road on his "Marathon for the Middle Class," John Edwards continues to pick up momentum as he heads through southeastern Iowa. The marathon across Iowa is giving Edwards a chance to talk to thousands of caucus goers about his plans to stand up to the powerful special interests and give hardworking middle class families a voice in Washington. Each hour, he is highlighting one specific policy initiative – a total of 36 steps to strengthen the middle class. Edwards will conclude the marathon tonight with a "This Is Our Country" rally in Des Moines with John Mellencamp.

1. I have a question with respect to John Edwards that I hope someone...
can and will answer. This is an honest question that I don't have any idea of the answer. Will John Edwards as President take on the corrupt previous Administration, and not just let them walk away unscathed?

2. To be honest, I don't know
It is not in his platform. But, he has also said he will listen to every day people, and will try to do their will. So, if he keeps his promise and the people want the Bush administration investigated, he will do.

3. I sure hope that he will undertake this huge task... Realizing of course...
that his Administration will be hugely overwhelmed by the many things that will be required to try and turn this country around.

4. No. None of the candidates who have a chance of being elected will.
Once Bush leaves office, he's off the hook.

7. I really can't imagine any president doing this. Most Americans would view it as a waste of time.
and it likely is. Presidents should look forward and the next one should repair the damage done by Bush not strike out on a vendetta.

Just my opinion.

8. I guess it would seem that way if you really haven't been affected by...
this Administrations crimes.... But I would bet if you put something like this on the ballad, you might very well find a much different view than yours.

10. The most congress and the president...
could do was condemn certain actions. It's very unlikely that that any real punishments would be given.

A past presidents actions could be condemned by congress signed by the president followed by action by the presdident to prevent future presidential abuses of power.

9. It has to be done.
It is the only way we can show remorse for what has been done in our name.
We cannot EVER expect to intervene/interfere in ANY other country until we clean up our own backyard.

18. That's insanity.
If we leave it be, the next time they take power, and they will, they'll FUCK us running.

11. Edwards would not have the personal power to "go after" someone.
His Justice Department would have to review the law and facts and make a decision as to whether crimes have been committed. We do not want political judgments to influence the Justice Department. It would be inappropriate for Edwards to threaten criminal prosecutions against anyone.

15. That is a great question...I don't know though
Maybe a great submittal question at his site.
http://www.johnedwards.com/

I would like to know the answer to that when you find out. My gut feeling about it is they WOULD NOT walk away unscathed, because he has been a lawyer for people against corporations....but then again that is my take.

22. Any candidate who does will find himself "plane crashed" or "Kennedy'd"
The Bewshes have been and still are untouchable for 70 years running, and that is not going to change an iota. I think insiders know what they, Cheney and certain members of corporations that run this country are capable of, and unless someone does something about them, they'll write their own tickets.

21. AFAIK, Dennis Kucinich is the only one who has directly addressed the issue.
Nobody else has touched on it.
