This place has really become an ink blot test..
We have two incidents:

Incident One-Hillary tears up...
Hillary supporters claim: it was genuine emotion, sincere, and a natural thing..perfectly understandable under the circumstances and to read anything else into it is absurd.
Obama supporters claim it was fake..a ploy..a pathetic attempt to grab the sympathy vote

Incident Two- Obama says Hillary is "likeable enough"
Hillary supporters claim this was dissmissive, rude, condescending, and petty
Obama supporters claim it was just a meaningless comment, didn't mean anything at all and to read anything else into it is absurd.

16. Exactly. What ever happened to that early email abbreviation
deparately needed on the DU these days - IMHO. It should be attached to almost every post these last days and, even if you say "of course, it's implied, this is obviously my opinion", saying it makes some level of difference to the discourse. IMHO.

20. Agreed.
It's kind of amazing how many obvious opinions are posted and then defended as if they are facts.

A good recent example is all of the discussion about racism and sexism. Those are very personal issues, and outside of some generally-accepted norms, it's largely up to the individual to decide if he or she sees a situation or circumstance as sexist or racist.

And, yet, people will post an opinion on a situation and declare that it's a fact that cannot be disputed.

Yeah, right!

7. And I (an Edwards supporter) says
Incident one: Real enough. The strain, the lack of sleep, and the circumstances provoked an emotional response. Fair enough.

Incident two: An off-the-cuff comment not intended to offend.

22. sadly, it speaks poorly of the populace as a whole, and
even the people who frequent this board.

shallow "American Idol" criteria. They are all trying to outdo that British guy - the lead judge on that show - for doing hatchet jobs.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with any sane selection process for choosing the leader of the free world.

even the rantings in the press over whether to "go negative" are all about the contest, as if it were a prize fight or horse race, and not about the job and their fitness for it. It is who has the best strategy - did so-and-so play the booger-on-the-nose card too early, or not early enough?

It's as if it really didn't have any bearing on the probability of this country's government surviving.

10. One thing you will never hear...
"I don't know."

I have no idea whether misting up was calculated.

I do know that the media turned what was nothing into a Jimmy Swaggart incident of sobbing hysteria and Obama supporters latched onto it.

I have no idea what Obama meant by that remark.

I do know it's barely mentioned in the MSM and mostly is a side issue that no one really gives a fuck about except to debate for points.

Must look harder- must be here somewhere- mustn't it?

Let's talk about who we want to go to a barb-b-q with.

33. Actually, I think Obama's "likeable enough" insult was a glimpse into his misogyny...
Obama was inflamed that a woman should dare question Him. His remark was dismissive and insulting and shows his contempt for not just Hillary but all women who don't toe the line. I thought he was ill~qualified before, now I actively dislike him and believe him to be angry.

34. I didn't like that episode but I have to disagree.
I perceived (another way of saying IMO) the remark to be rude and dismissive and didn't like it, but..to claim it is misogyny is indefensible. We don't have a glimpse into the motives behind the behavior. Maybe he didn't want to affirm she was likable, maybe he wa s distracted, maybe he was annoyed by the whole likability issue, maybe he doesn't like her and was trying to get that across. There are too many interpretations of what he meant by it.

That being said, I still didn't like the behavior. It turned me off.
