Why do Unions spend so much and fight so hard for their candidate to win?

Unions that back Edwards, Hillary and Obama are spending quite a bit of money on ads and assistance.

What do they gain from one specific dem candidate that it worth be worth so much? just the details in the candidates plans?

The Republicans are more than hostile. They want nothing less than destroying the Labor Movement. They have tried to make it so union dues will be voluntary. They also govern unfair labor activities and union organizing elections. Do a little googling . The history of how current GOP control of the NLRB plays dirty with union activity.

8. i am a member of AFSCME & they didn't ask me before giving union support

to Hillary Clinton, especially since she would love to finish dismantling unions IMO

Could it be with your union, some chapters did not participate?? Maybe they had an internet poll and you were not informed. ? With Hillary's famous WalMart connections, I don't understand their uncritical stand towards her. And certainly they are overlooking the Clinton's legacy with Nafta.

7. I actually wish they wouldn't back any of them in the primaries

We have three pro-labor candidates and we had even more before. Any of them who becomes president is going to be as useful to labor as any other. I wish they would save their money and energy for the GE. I'm beginning to wonder how the Democratic coalition even survives this race.

Because all unions are not the same and some unions fight each other to represent different companies or careers. There was a big falling out after the last election.
