For all of you who just love your chosen Democratic candidate---Kucinich, Hillary, Obama, Edwards—to death, and who believe in your marrow that every other candidate is being backed by corporate America----
Corporate America does not want any of the Democratic candidates to win this fall’s presidential elections not with the Democrats in control of the House and Democrats expected to pick up more Senate seats. When they interfere with the Democratic primary, it is for one reason only. They want to make the followers of each candidate so hostile towards each other that after the convention we will refuse to back the winner. They want to tarnish the reputations of each candidate so thoroughly that their own mothers' would not vote for them. They want to make Democrats so sick of the whole election process that we stay home in November in droves.
They want to make it impossible for any Democrat to win. Why? Because they have so much to lose.
1. The War in Middle East is keeping crude prices around $100/barrel. This is a priority for the oil and gas industry, and it can only happen if the next administration continues the current senseless conflict in Iraq and continues to hurl insults at Iran. If we have a Democratic president, the price of oil will drop faster than you can say “Peace in the Middle East.” As a corollary, the tax breaks that the last Republican Congress gave to the oil and gas industry, the ones that Bush would veto if the current Congress tried to get rid of them---those are toast if we get a Democratic president.
2. The Health Insurance Industry is fighting for its life. And so is the Republican Party. Universal health care will be the first thing that the Democratic President and Congressional majority do. The Republican President will kill that notion. Or make sure that the health insurance industry profits from any plan that is put forward and that the Republican Party is given credit for giving Americans health care.
3. The pharmaceutical industry wants to keep its corporate welfare, too, aka Medicare prescription coverage in which the federal government does not get to collective bargain for lower prices. Drug companies have selectively jacked up the prices of drugs that seniors use. A Democratic administration would put a stop to that.
4. Telecommunications (the mainstream media, Viacom-CBS, Disney-ABC, AOL-Time Warner, NewsCorp-Fox, The Tribune Co. , GE-NBC) industry execs love the way that the current FCC is recommending unlimited media expansion. No doubt all the Republican candidates have promised the media heads that they will continue to do like Martin. The Democrats, on the other hand, will start to break up the monopolies that have formed under Bush. Look no further to find out why the MSM is biased against the Democratic candidates.
5. Military industrial complex. GE again and all the other companies that make warplanes, missiles, rockets. We are heading into a recession. According to the BBC, we are already in a recession. The Democrats are going to pull us out of most foreign wars, and they will have to cut back on military spending in order to increase social spending.
6. The Mega Rich Right Wingers. The Bushes and Melon-Scaifes. The people who supported Hitler and who tried to overthrow FDR. They have worked hard to get us into this recession. The last time we had a Great Depression, FDR came along and spoiled it all. This time, if they play their cards right, they hope to force the American middle class into becoming a permanent serf class, homeless, always in debt, at the mercy of their employers. They also hope to establish American fascism. They have been stacking the courts with Federalist Judges, but their job is far from done. If a Democrat becomes president now and for the next eight years, all those Federalists will be diluted.
7. Employers who profit off the misery of undocumented alien workers. They do not want their Latino workers to have full rights, including the right to collective bargain. They want them scared and powerless. With a Republican in the executive branch, they can call INS anytime their immigrant labor starts talking union. And they never have to worry that the people who pluck their chickens might become citizens.
8. "Sin" industries such as alcohol, tobacco, gambling, drugs all do better business when people are economically and mentally depressed. Happy people do not have to drown their sorrows. Plus, a government administering universal health care will invest in smoking cessation and a sensible alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs.
The Democratic President will not write laws. Congress will. All the Democratic president will be required to do is sign them and appoint Democrats to federal agencies to administer them and appoint liberal judges. That means that the presidencies of Obama, Hillary and Edwards will be more like each other than any of them will be like the presidency of George W. Bush---or the presidencies of any of the Republicans.
Fred, Rudi, Romney, McCain would all please the special interests above, because they will be good for their business. And what is good for the special interests I have listed above is what has been killing the rest of us.
So, for the sake of this country, campaign for the best candidate, but remember that once all the votes are counted, whoever has the highest tally will still be a Great President as long as we stick together and do not let the corporations scatter us to the wind.

PS Have you asked yourself why the press is demanding that the Dems anoint a nominee yesterday but the Republicans are allowed to take their own sweet time? The answer is it takes the corporate media months, up to a full year to do a bang up job of sliming a candidate for president. Gore is a liar evolved over two years. The sooner the corporations know whom the Democratic nominee will be, the sooner they can get to work Swiftboating him or her. Be in no hurry to select the nominee. Let the corporations stew. Just be civil and remember that all our candidates are better than theirs.
