What does Edwards need to accomplish during tomorrow's debate?

I think he needs to stay presidential, display leadership, and not get in the middle of the soap opera.

I think he needs to demand equal time to speak/answer questions/and the right to rebuttal.

The moderators will try to make it a Clinton/Obama show, but Edwards needs to be above the fray, level headed and smart.

I have ultimate faith he will deliver.

Edwards is advised to go back to the Two Americas of the 2004 campaign and drop approach that leads to the "angry map." He's justified, of course, by the writer of the article believed the 2004 approach worked better for him.

I just hope that Obama and Clinton keep it clean and civil. We would all be hurt, including Edwards if they get ugly during the debate.

He should be sure to answer the questions because that's what Hillary won't do.

He should be brief and to the point because that's what Obama will not do.

He should not force himself to smile, but not come across as angry. Go for serious and dignified.

He should not lapse into his stump speech, no matter how much his advisors say otherwise. It is tiring to hear it over and over. And don't repeat what everyone already knows about him - son-of-a-mill-worker, etc. He has defined himself well, now move on.

He should leave the debate having given us all something to think about.

Yeah, it's safe, but we can tell it's canned. If someone asks you a question, answer the question. Give a real answer, not a dodge. Scrap the platitudes and give us some meat.

However your last 2 points are spot on and 100 percent correct.

Edwards has to live and die with his decisions and strategy....there are no more "do overs" and second chances.

Either he has an "ear" for the voter fatigue or he doesn't.

He must rest and not be overly tired....because in a debate enviornment, tiredness is your worst enemy.....when you are tired you revert to the familiar and trotting out the all too familiar mill speech at this point will sink rather than swim.

Right now the soap opera is becoming thin and wearing on voters who have a very short attention span.....

Edwards needs to be able to sound and look fresh tomorrow night.....it is critical.

Don't be tempted to step into trite humor (the Obama "You're likeable enough HIllary," which
was viewed as sarcastic. No, presidents don't do sarcasm, at least until they're inaugurated.

Define yourself and your agenda... you have set the agenda in every candidate's proposals.

Be totally transparent, nothing mysterious, nothing hidden, nothing subtle.

come up with a totally new message; step up from the campaign speech,
and take a page from Obama... strive for something inspirational...but not too much.
It's your detailed, concrete agenda that has kept your message out there.
