OK, let's see who the real Dems are: Say something nice about the other candidates.
Because at some point, many of us will be voting for the Dem candidate that is not our top choice. At least I hope so.

I'll start.

Hillary Clinton is smart, competent, and dedicated to public service. Very admirable.
John Edwards is the real deal, truly cares about the less fortunate, very passionate; we can rely on him to fight for the 'little guy.'

Now your turn.

:-)

8. I like all three:
Obama: A constitutional lawyer who has in depth understanding of the rule of law. Displays compassion and an understanding of the plight of those who are not in top 1%, wonderful orator, visionary, inspires young people and (superficial warning) very good looking.

Clinton: willing to provide great detail of any proposal she advances, not easily intimidated, great sense of humor, understands in an in depth way the working of our government, believes that government can provide many things to make our lives better.

Edwards: (my favorite) has displayed the best qualities of an individual learning and evolving, is smart, passionate and pisses off the right people.

Oh, and I really, really like all three of their spouses.

:-)

18. Sounds like a good idea for a thread, NoBorders!
:hi:

Hillary Clinton is a very smart lady, and although I haven't watched all of the debates, I have been impressed with her performance in the ones I have seen. I believe she is a lot tougher than many people have given her credit for, and generally seems to handle herself well. I think she would be a fine leader.

Barack Obama is probably one of the most charismatic politicians I've ever seen, and I admire his ability to get people "fired up" and involved in their government. His message of hope and change is like a breath of fresh air after the past too-many years, and he seems to have this almost visionary quality about him. I think he could do great things as President. (And I don't know if this counts, but I also happen to think he's very handsome. )

:hi:

24. Obama is amazingly charismatic... watching his speeches
is like watching a masterclass in persuasive rhetoric. I have no doubt that if he's the candidate, many will flock to him after hearing him speak.

Clinton is sharp as a tack and tough as nails. She knows her way around the cesspit that is DC and will have *no* trouble hitting the ground at a full run as President. Also, she's had to deal with more slings and arrows thrown her way than ANY other candidate we have, and the resolve and determination she's had to develop in recent years will enable to her to best defend against the repuke slime machine, should she be our candidate. I think she's also a very charismatic person who will probably make some pundits' heads spin when they see the support she gets, should she be the candidate.

26. Wes Clark says he thinks that Hillary will investigate the Bush administration
rather sweep their multitude of misdeeds under the rug in the name of "moving on."

Obama is the best orator of the top three, and so for many, the most inspiring candidate they've ever seen.

Dennis Kucinich reminds us all of what the Left really looks, as a standard to measure the other candidates by. He shifts the Overton window by making our other candidates look moderate by comparison.

Mike Gravel has provided hours of entertainment, and he tried to challenge our other candidates when everyone was still in play nice mode.

47. No. We need a PROGRESSIVE in the White House
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 02:37 PM by TechBear_Seattle
A Dem controlled by the same corporate interests that control most Republicans, a Dem with a voting record that closely resembles the voting record of most Republicans, will do the country far more harm than good.

You should know by now that Democrat != progressive.

(Edited for spelling.)

John Edwards: my wife is a big fan of Edwards and we both love his focus on working people and "kitchen table" problems. Elizabeth is great!!!

Hillary Clinton: intelligent and capable. Her Senate record on domestic issues is excellent. Her focus on health care and children's issues has been progressive and admirable. I personally believe Bill Clnton's was the most fulfilling Presidency of the 20th century as measured by bringing the American people peace and prosperity.

Dennis Kucinich: No one can question Dennis commitment to the boldest progressive agenda in recent memory. He's been a warrior. I give him big props for sticking with it and continuing to influence the discussion

And here's a thumbs up to more threads with positive thoughts about all of our progressive and capable candidates.

36. Obama is very eloquent, motivational, and inspirational.
It would be exciting to have a leader like that again.

Edwards, if he can get elected, would clearly have a huge mandate for significant change. He will have succeeded despite huge obstacles and against powerful opponents. Presumably, he wouldn't have had the media attention of his Repub opponent, but grassroots people will have had to rise up and take charge anyway. Then he would have to do it all over again convincing Congress to come along.

37. Edwards' focus on the poor is admirable
especially in a political climate in which we seldom hear any discussion beyond how we can help the middle class. That he has the guts to talk about poverty, which will certainly be a big issue as this recession progresses, speaks well of his character.

Sen Clinton is exceptionally smart, committed, and prepared. Everyone knows that she works hard and does her homework and has earned (sometimes grudging) respect from her colleagues. Besides, I love that a woman has a real chance in this election cycle....I gotta be truthful.

if they'll speak out powerfully regarding GE's banning of Dennis from a debate that he'd been invited to. I will support them in speaking against direct corporate interference with the United States democratic electoral process.

I'm waiting to be able to support them and say good things about them. For them to do for other legit candidates as they would want done for themselves, for the strength and unity of the party.

Waiting...
