Poll: Kerry-Edwards Ticket Has Advantage
John Kerry (news - web sites) and John Edwards (news - web sites) are still fighting for the Democratic presidential nomination, but a new poll puts a Kerry-Edwards ticket ahead of the incumbents, President Bush (news - web sites) and Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites).

Both Kerry and Edwards are basically tied with Bush in head-to-head matchups in a CBS News poll released this weekend. But when Kerry-Edwards are matched against Republican Bush-Cheney, the Democrats lead 50 percent to 42 percent.

1. Sounds good to me.
But I still support Edwards for the democratic nominee.

2. don't get too cocky
Mike Dukakis was ahead of Bush 41 by 18 points a lot later in the game than Kerry/Edwards.

3. Kerry/Edwards Ticket
is the made for and by TV Ticket....

Edwards was made by the media and will be broken by the media....

Now, can someone tell me please.....

do we really need two candidates who both voted for the Iraq war, for No Child Left Behind, for the Patriot Act, and against the $87 billion supplemental Iraq package? Will the double echo of voting for most of Bush’s policies really gain the Democratic ticket votes?

Another important item--A Vice President has to be the attack dog, not a whimpering puppy.

Are voters begging for a Democratic Dan Quayle?

No, the media is.

8. I'm not for a K/E ticket, but he is no whimpering puppy
You don't become a legendary success in the courtroom by being a whimpering puppy. Edwards optimism has been more about democrats not attacking each other than not going after the republicans, because he has plenty

17. Edwards doesn't attack fellow Democrats....he just
sicks Hugh Shelton out to do his dirty work. I can't forgive him for that. Clark could bring much more to the ticket than Edwards.

24. Ridiculous...
1) There has been no link shown between Shelton's statements and Edwards. While Edwards "consults" with Shelton, Shelton has not voiced any form of public support for Edwards. Meanwhile, he has said some positive things about Kerry.

2) Kerry himself is at least partly responsible for the death of the draft Clark movement. After the post-Iowa debate, Kerry viciously attacked Clark as a kook after Clark refused to distance himself from Moore. Kerry even went so far as to defend Bush's war record, claiming Moore's comments were "simply not true." (That isn't a direct quote, only a paraphrase).

If this Edwards-Shelton thing is the basis of your negative opinion of Edwards, may I suggest you're not entitled to even have one at all?

21. dan quayle
could barely make a complete sentence without sounding like a complete idiot. Edwards would talk circles around him.

On the "echo" I think consistency is needed on a ticket. If one candidate does one thing and another does the opposite it looks weak and inconsistent--no matter whether one agrees or disagrees with their vote or decision.

I agree though, the media is cherry-picking their choice. Time will tell.

7. Kerry needs to pick Graham
Edited on Sun Feb-29-04 09:11 PM by Bombtrack
We can't let Bush have the upper hand in Florida.

What STATES does a Kerry/Edwards ticket have advantage in that Kerry/Graham wouldn't? None

11. Would it reallly be prudent to pick veep just for FL?
Knowing what we know about brother Jeb & co. running the election down there?

16. They didn't "run" the election
all of the things that they did are now known. The jews for Buchanon, the Nader voters, the purged voters didn't go away and die, they're back and they're ABB

And GOP pollsters have been warning bush that a strong democrat with Graham as his veep will make it very likely that they CAN'T hold Florida, which is why he's closing on 20 visits since 2000.

They don't RUN Florida any more than any other state with republican govenor and majority

15. I doubt it.
But from what I understand it would bring Ohio a little closer to our side, which is better because Ohio is less likely to be Republican anyway and it has plenty of electoral votes. (Seems to me Edwards beats Bush pretty well there.)

What reports are you talking about? Since I assume you're not just pulling this out of your ass.

20. Actually, I am pulling it out of my ass (at least the Ohio bit).
:) I'm sorry, I can't remember where I read all these things. But I was under the impression that Edwards appealed to Ohioans. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

23. I'm leaning edwards, but Clark can bring in Arkansas
I'm not convinced that JE can bring in NC, while Arkansas elected a Dem senator in 2002. Clark can probably bring it in. Remember if we win everything we won last time plus Arkansas we win.
