Dean supporters step forward please
Are you in a state that votes March 2 or later?

Will you just be voting your heart when you vote for Dean or is there a realistic chance of picking up some delegates?

For me, I vote in the Texas primary on March 9. And here in Austin our feeling is that we will be sending one or more delegates to Boston.

1. Its all screwed up here in Ohio.
Dean gets delegates based upon 15% per district. I really don't want kerry so I may vote with my head instead of my heart and vote Edwards.

3. Some would say the betrayal comes from...
...those who voted for a Bush enabling, PNAC supporting, FAUX funded. botox injected sellout just because they bought into an illusion of "electability". A vote for Kerry is a vote for 4 more years of the same bullshit, regardless of who wins in November - which will probably be Junior anyway, if Kerry ends up the nominee.

26. Not a betrayal...
a very real struggle for most Dean supporters. A struggle one may not understand unless they have supported Dean from the beginning.

Dean's fearless stand on issues are at the core of many who have supported him from the beginning.

If someone supported Kerry or Edwards from the beginning, then it is fair to say they decided to overlook (or even agreed with) the stands these two took on the very same issues. No real conflict here so it may be hard for them to comprehend our dilemma.

Now it has come down to only 2 choices for Dean supporters in the primary process. A strategy vote or a statement vote. I don't see either as a betrayal just as long as we the get the desired outcome (a seat at the table).

19. Oh, vote Dean
You know you want to.

Even if he doesn't get the required percentage, it still sends a powerful message about the level of his die-hard support.

9. The reason not to vote for Kerry or Edwards, but for someone who has
not endorsed either of them, is that the more delegates which go to Dean, Kucinich, Sharpton, Braun, we will have a brokered convention. Which is good, since then we may not end up with who "they" have decided is the winner. If you vote for Edwards, I think he will, on the second ballot, endorse Kerry...maybe so that he gets the VP spot. Or he may get all the other candidates to endorse him for President, which would give him the nomination. Think carefully before you vote. It matters and there are many ways that "We have the Power"!

Only on the first ballot are people required to cast their ballot for who they are "promised" to. After that, it is wide open. So, those who have fewer delegates can band together, and if combined they have 2161 they will choose who is the nominee. This is why Kerry and Edwards people are telling all of us that we have to vote for one of those and why the other candidates should get out now! They know that they may lose at the convention, if it is left up to the delegates there!

Also, the more delegates, the more say our candidates have on the Party Platform. This is important!

My whole family has already voted for Dean in California. We have to vote by absentee ballot in this district.

10. i have already voted for dean
by absentee ballot in vermont ...there is absolutely no compelling strategy to vote for anyone other than who represents you most closely on the issues at hand..to do otherwise is foolish in the primary process...general election of course, is another story...i am very curious to understand why someone would do otherwise?

11. I am voting for Edwards in my presidential preference ballot
and then caucusing under uncommitted/stand up for special interests. I live in Minnesota and we have a really weird set-up for our caucus this year. The presidential preference ballot is like a primary and the results will determine the composition of delegates among the candidates. The caucus portion of the evening determines which delegates move up to the next level (similar to the Iowa caucus). I am voting for Edwards in the PPB, because Dean will not get 15% of the votes in my precinct (I live in a pretty Republican area of town). In Minneapolis, I believe more people are sticking with Dean as he has a chance to pull 15%. I am voting for Edwards because I want to drag out the primary process and I prefer Edwards over Kerry as the Democratic Nominee. While the delegates will have to vote in the first round based on the results of the PPB, we still have a chance to have Dean delegates move onto the National Convention to further Dean's platform.

15. This Vermonter is voting for Dean tomorrow
The Rutland Herald here in Vermont endorsed him for the Vermont primary despite the fact that he's not running anymore. I had felt like staying home, but I think there's a chance that Vermont will tell the country just who the best guy for the job is and send the message that John Kerry is unacceptable as a candidate. I'm going to do my part for a great leader whose policies here changed my life for the better.

i just started a thread on my predicament. i really want to vote for dean....and that is battling with my desire to vote for a president rather than delegates. i'm not going to vote for kerry (not out of some dislike of the man....i'm just pretty sure i will have a chance to vote for him in the GE)

20. I voted for Dean
Early voting in Texas was last week. To be honest, I waited until after the debate to make my decision. After watching I concluded there were no significant differeneces between the two Johns.

I am ABB in the GE this year, so it doesn't matter which one wins the nom. I hope to use my for vote Dean as a message that there are real problems within the party that need to addressed. I only hope they are listening because this is "absolutly" the last time I will compromise my ideals.

Win or lose in November, if the "business as usual" politics continue...I will look to a third party in 2008.

but I got a call from MN for Dean asking me to vote for Edwards.

Sorry but he and Kerry are the same to me. I like things about each, and dislike things about each, so... if I cant vote for Dean, Im staying the hell home.

I'll vote for the D in November but beyond that I'm not real interested right now.

In NYSCD 22 Kerry does't have delegates on the ballot (no big deal, just worth mentioning).
I am almost SURE that Dean will pick up delegates in NY.

29. Voting for Dean in NY tommorow.
And no, he wouldn't be getting any delegates in my CD... As for Texas: please check whether you still have the dual primary/caucus system. You might have to vote in the primary and -then- go to caucus for the vote to actually matter delegate-wise (which is why you may have a much better chance; and besides, the way things look right now, John Edwards will likely be dropping out tommorow night)

32. We do indeed have a dual system
Some delegates are chosen in the primary; others through the caucuses the evening of March 9. So Texans for Dean: be sure you go to your caucus and drag some supporters with you. See the explanation at http://www.deanfortexas.com/node/view/280

Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 06:28 PM by DFLforever
and it's all mixed up here as in Ohio with some Dean supporters voting for Edwards (they'll subcaucus as "Dean supporters for Edwards")and others voting for Dean.

I'm voting for Howard Dean because it will be the first vote for a presidential candidate aligned with my principles I have ever cast and I first voted in 1960 for JFK (the real one.)
