21. Cheney
I'm just referring to the rumors that have been swirling the last few weeks, nothing solid. I'm only speculating.

Maybe I should have made that clear.

Perle resigned? Really?

2. Zell Miller is really a repuke
He's never been on the democrats side. I think there are a lot of repukes who pose as democrats, run on the democratic ticket, get elected then side with the party who they REALLY support. I feel there are many "plants" who's sole purpose is to keep as many real democrats out of office as they can so they can shove their agenda through more easily.A real democrat is not going to vote for the repuke's issues 99% of the time and go against the democrats issues. They are supposed to vote for the issues that represent their party.....not the opposite. We need to get the phonies out of office and get real democrats in.

26. Supposedly he used to be a true moderate Democrat...
But ever since he became a US Senator he gradually started become more and more Republican. It would make sense if he were running for re-election (Republicans like him for voting Republican, Democrats don't have any other choice) but he isn't, so I guess he has truly all of a sudden decided to be a Republican. It's not of that much concern, just another senator.

6. One man does NOT equal Georgia
And, as a Georgian, I resent the inference.

Zig Zag Zell is getting even with Bill Clinton. When he delivered Georgia to Clinton in 1992, he expected an appointment. He didn't get one and now he's getting even.

18. Make this a third on that.
Zell's got his panties in a bunch about previous broken promises. He's a bitter, hateful old man, and the sooner we're rid of his sorry ass, the better.

28. He was governor of Georgia at the time...
Most politicians would rather be a governor or senator than serve in the president's cabinet.

35. Not Zell
He even went so far as to say publicly that he would take a cabinet position and allow the Lt. Governor to succeed him in Georgia.

He was publicly embarassed mightily by Bill Clinton. This is payback, plain and simple.

I have a feeling chimpy, if re-elected, will give him a job even if he is a democrat. There's always one member of the cabinet that is not a member of the president's party.

13. Phony maybe, but he WAS an excellent Governor
and instituted one of the most liberal programs ever - the Hope Scholarship. A program the republicans are trying to kill today, at the first opportunity.

Say what you want about the Zell Miller of today, but he was a good Governor.

29. sorry to dissappoint you SaddenedDem
but the HOPE Scholarship isn't really a liberal program. You see, it runs off the lottery and since the poor are more likely to play the lottery (thus spending money) and less likely to have the 3.0 required to achieve HOPE it is really not much of a help to the less fortunate.

33. BULL!
Poor does NOT equal unable to obtain a 3.0 grade average.

I know a LOT of poor kids who have gone to school on Hope Scholarships. And they wouldn't have dreamed of going before Hope.

I know it comes from the lottery. Ask Sonny Perdue why he's trying to raid the Hope program and make it VERY conservative - attaching the money to SAT scores and NOT GPA. He also is trying to raid leftover funds not used and move them into the general funds for the state.

40. check your facts
i'm not saying that poor kids can't get a 3.0, if you'll look at my post it says they are less likely. which everyone should know that this is true. poor kids are more likely to have to work, be involved in ghetto-type stuff, ect, ect that keeps them from being able to achieve a 3.0 nearly as easily as a kid in a middle-class family...but nice try. BULL indeed.

15. Zell Says:
He is still a Democrat; that he has no plans to change political parties, but that he has come to believe, "Bush is the right man at the right time, so I am going to support him." I really don't think it matters. He is not running for re-election to the Senate. He was an ok Governor--he did some good things with education and higher education--but once he got to Washington, he ended up being a little bit weird.

To hell with Zell, I am voting Democratic in November.

16. I wonder how Max and Zell get along now
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 12:27 PM by Doomsayer13
Max being the most virulent anti-Bush Georgia politician, and Zell being the king of all ass-kissers. I know that Miller campaigned for Cleland, but I recall seeing him in an interview blaiming DEMOCRATS for Cleland's loss. If I were Max, I'd send a thank you note in the guise of dog-poop in a paper bag.

22. Here's one of the answers to Sen. Miller and what he is up to.....
on February 11 , 2004 Dominionist leaders in congress made their move; they introduced a bill in both houses called The Constitution Restoration Act of 2004. Among the sponsors of the bill are Rep. Robert Aderholt (Alabama), Rep. Michael Pence (Indiana), Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama, Sen. Zell Miller (Georgia), Sen. Sam Brownback (Kansas), and Sen. Lindsey Graham (South Carolina).

http://www.yuricareport.com/Dominionism/ConstitutionRestorationAct.htm

“Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, the Supreme Court shall not have jurisdiction to review, by appeal, writ of certiorari, or otherwise, any matter to the extent that relief is sought against an element of Federal, State, or local government, or against an officer of Federal, State, or local government (whether or not acting in official personal capacity), by reason of that element’s or officer’s acknowledgment of God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government.”

Because the judiciary is “an element” of the federal, state and local governments, this wording, if it becomes law, may allow any judge to institute biblical punishments without being subject to review by the Supreme Court or the federal court system.

24. I was told about a month ago,
by one of the candidates for State party Chair, that Zell would be dealt with at an Exec. Comm. meeting in February. Well, the meeting came and went, and I have no evidence that the bylaws were modified regarding superdelegates declaring for the opposing party. Grrrr.

Also, Terry McAuliffe was here a few weeks ago, and was specifically asked about Zell and the convention, and he said something to the effect that "that was in the past, we want to look forward".

HEY TERRY! THE CONVENTION HASN'T HAPPENED YET.

I was also told by the interim chair that there is no way Zell would actually GO to the convention, but that seems like more of a hope than a fact, and is small consolation anyway.
