Any CA voters annoyed by NO on 56 ads?

I find it insulting to my intelligence to see a bunch of actors posing as regular folk talking about their intelligence being insulted by Prop 56. Any campaign that has to hide at the bottom of the screen that they're financed by the Rethuglican Party AND Chevron/Texaco is rooted in hypocrisy.

But aside from that kneejerk reaction, it looks like a good proposition anyway. How could anyone be against reducing the margin of budget approval to 55% after the gridlock we experienced last year? Hopefully RW fear and ignorance tactics will not prevail.

The no on L people are funded by Walmart .

So we have this commercial running here :

This guy is in his living room with his one year old
kid (cute kid) the dad is talking about how his kid
had liver disease at birth and recieved a transplant
at 6 months old . The dad then says "I'm so glad I
work for a company that takes care of it's employees"
(change scene) inside a walmart store w/ dad in a walmart
vest . "Walmart took care of me and my son"

I nearly kicked in the T.V.

You know that Walmart is suing our county and threatening to sue Oaktown if we don't let the mega stores in, right?

any attempt to bring WalMart into Oaktown. About the only places they could go would be the Fruitvale shopping area by 880 or down by Jack London Square.

Our low wage earners have a hard enough time making ends meet without introducing all those $7/hr. clerk jobs with no benefits.

Depending on where you live you may have different things on your ballot than I do.

56 allows the legislature to raise taxes with a 55% majority. Prop 13 (hisss) made it two thirds.

57 gets us a loan of (I think) 14 billion dollars so that people don't have to pay a cahhhh tax.

58 requires a balanced budget, which I thought was already required

57 ow... this is the "pass the debt on to our kids so we don't have to raise/pay taxes now" proposition?
58 balanced budget... I remember Pete Wilson paying state payments with little (worthless) voucher chits once during a budget crisis stand off... not that this has anything to do with this particular vote -but budget difficulties go back long before Gray Davis - somehow the republicans often forget this point.

gain a majority here then prop 56 would be very bad to have to have put in. I am most likely going to abstain and not vote on 56 at all.

23. A little proselytizing here

Prop. 56 is desperately needed whichever party is in the majority. The budget process in California does not work. Too many giveaways to the holdouts that end up costing us too much. I don't think we'll ever enact real reforms in the budget unless this passes. I'm against all the other measures.

And I hate those Walmart ads. I didn't connect them to the local initiative. I thought Walmart was getting too much heat about how they treat their workers. I always liked them because I was happy Walmart felt so threatened. Oh well, the ads are very deceitful.

There was some idiot screaming at a guy collecting ballot initiative signatures last Friday at the farmer's market where I work. Literally, screaming "Prove that that won't raise my property tax." We finally had to call security because he looked like he might get violent. That's how the freepers are in California. If you raise their taxes a nickle, they scream as if you're taking their house away from them.

Idiots still think there's lots of "fat" that can come out of government. It's hopeless.

Get rid of your damn TV!

I haven't been annoyed by a single TV political ad. It's so easy to stay informed if you have no TV, but have the 'net. Frankly I don't know how the rest of you keep from being turned into it's-all-OK, I-trust-the-President, damn-am-I-afraid-all-the-time typical brainless Americans. The DUers who watch regular TV and maintain their principles must have really strong constitutions to stand up to the constant brainwashing.
