Thanks to Tom Delay, Texas Dems miss Super Tuesday...
A little-reported side effect of Tom Delay's successful efforts to marginalize Texas Democrats...

Remember that AFTER the Dems returned to the State House in Austin, it took the Repubs three or four rounds of intense infighting to finally decide on which ripoff redistricting scheme to adopt.

Because of that internecine squabble, which finally had to brokered by the Bugman himself, the Secretary of State claimed that due to lack of time the Texas primary had to be postponed by one week to March 9th.

So everyone vote tomorrow - wish we could have been part of it.

1. Are Texas Dems at all galvanized by this?
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 01:14 AM by A HERETIC I AM
do you, as a resident, detect a groundswell of resentment and outrage?
Another poster mentioned that many Texans are not at all that happy with what is going on, both in D.C. and in Austin. Do you get the same impression?

2. Dems are becoming more visible - but I can't call it a groundswell
Although we did get the former state Dem chair elected mayor of Houston (Bill White) so there's that. But Houston is a relatively Democratic city (by Texas standards anyway)

3. Well, keep hoping. Hopefully, Texas R/W ers sooner of later will
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 01:40 AM by A HERETIC I AM
realize that the agenda set by their party is not what it is to be an American, much less a Texan. Small government EXCEPT where cronyism is concerned.

on edit to say "keep hoping, Hopefully"????!?!?!?!?!

lol....ok ok...so much for the redundancies....but one other thought and question....How does Edwards do in the polls in Texas?
I would think his appeal to the working man might resonate in your state as well as anywhere.

5. Super Tuesday kick
:kick:

Everybody vote today! :bounce: I don't even care for whom. Let's see turnout. That will really give the Pubs some gastric distress - nothing like an energized electorate to send a few chills down some yellow-streaked backs.

:dem: !

6. you can't argue against demographic change
Texas is getting more hispanic every year. In a decade or two, white non-hispanics will cease to be the majority in the state.

Then the democrats will reign.

Patience.
