Zogby Poll: On Wednesday polling Edwards up to 27% in SC--moves into second place
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 02:35 AM by book_worm
For the second day in a roll after Monday's debate John Edwards is posting dramatic gains in South Carolina according to Zogby tracking poll.

The results 1/20-22:
Obama: 43%
Clinton: 25%
Edwards: 15%

The newest results 1/21-23:
Obama: 39%
Clinton: 24%
Edwards: 19%

***But,according to Zogby, on polling on 1/23 (Wed) Edwards jumped to 27% and moved into second place ahead of Hillary.

With Hillary abandoning South Carolina and Edwards rallying could JE come in a solid second (or better) by Saturday?

Go Johnny Go!

nobody was thinking that she might come in third. This would be her second third place showing of the race (IA and SC if it happens).

51. Exactly. It'll prove that she can bring in CA and NY and traditional
Dem states, but when it comes to making inroads into Repub territory she's still hilariously inept.

More proof that an Obama/Edwards coalition could easily take her down.

59. She can bring in CA ONLY because
she's got Torres' backing and that is because her husband made inroads beginning in '92 and laid the groundwork FOR her. She's not "winning" anything here, she's enjoying a rigged system.

... if she finishes 3rd in SC. (Though it all remains to be seen. Hell, she could still win.)

Zogby's comments in the polling report...
“Edwards, meanwhile, has had his second good day since the Monday night CNN debate, in which he delivered a strong performance. He hit 19% support on Tuesday alone and then 27% support on Wednesday alone. And, on Wednesday alone, he pulled ahead of Clinton overall. He has pulled ahead among whites. Could he pull ahead of Clinton and finish in second place? Even with a strong showing here, where does he go next to take advantage of the momentum?

“Clinton has slipped slightly, and is at a point where you could wonder what implications a third place showing here could have for her heading into the Super Tuesday primaries on Feb. 5. She has left the state to campaign elsewhere, leaving her husband behind to keep up appearances in South Carolina.

10. I'll guarant-damn-tee you this
Edwards will upset Obama in SC and takes the total delegates and use his BIG MO to force Clinton to drop out after failing to finish anything better than 3rd for the rest of her ride through Feb 5th, concedes her uselessness and releases her delegates, then 3/4 will go to Edwards, 1/4 will go to Obama, ensuring a Edwards and MAYBE Edwards/Clinton or Edwards/Obama unification ticket and a guara-damn-teed landslide over any Rethuglicans.

Both Democratic Congress and Democratic President can reverse many of the damages that the disaster has occurred. Filibuster will be useless, as there will be a true Democratic sweep throughout the US, ensuring the extinction of the current Rethuglican party.

And one other thing - neither Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid will retain their position for '09 - they'll elect someone more progressive-minded and help fix everything - Kucinich comes to mind, with -maybe- Diana DeGette as a majority whip. They will get things accomplished that we have dreamt about.

Feingold, Leahy and Reid goes to battle for the Majority seat - but the surprise winner will be...

Stay tuned next year, same bat time, same bat channel.

Edwards takes the nomination. Definitely no Hillary on the ticket. Obama....maybe. But it might be better overall to go with a non-Senator in the VP slot. A governor would be a solid choice. Richardson? or (in a surprising twist) the good Doctor himself??

Now there's a solid ticket.

Kucinich for Speaker of the House, definitely.

And for Senate Majority Leader, Chris Dodd. He's earned a shot.

Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 07:26 AM by Essene
He's saying that blacks were exploited in this campaign by the Clintons.

They pushed race into this contest knowing it would work against Obama. Not only did they do it, but they then pretended Obama was "playing the race card" and have lied about his campaign. It's a huge risk on their part.

Why was it a risk?

Because they risked a massive backlash among black voters who know this kind of nonsense for what it is.

So, what's going to happen is that blacks are abandoning the Clintons IN DISGUST for being exploited (you call this "racism"). This will show itself in SC as expected, and the media will emphasize how it's "a black thing."

This will cause PEOPLE LIKE YOU to freak out.

People who think this is "racism" from blacks, when all they are doing is rejecting a candidate who uses race to divide, smear and cause fear. There will be a huge backlash among scared whites going into Feb 5th.

Black voter turn-out will drop down to almost nothing, having been alienated once again... by politics.

Many blacks will NOT vote for Clinton in Nov, even if that means not voting at all. When minorities get stomped on and exploited so openly and nobody cares, they often just tune out in depression and won't vote. That's sad, but that's what is going to happen when they see the Clintons getting away with it... and seeing folks like you attacking THEM for being "racist" just because they take offense.

They wont speak out PRECISELY because of people like you calling them racist.

Congrats.

You're part of the problem in america.

And... i am not an Obama supporter.

Pollster John Zogby:
“The Democratic race in South Carolina is reminding me now of the beginning of the old Buffalo Springfield song: “There’s something happening here/What it is ain’t exactly clear.”
-snip-

“Edwards, meanwhile, has had his second good day since the Monday night CNN debate, in which he delivered a strong performance. He hit 19% support on Tuesday alone and then 27% support on Wednesday alone. And, on Wednesday alone, he pulled ahead of Clinton overall."

That'll be 2 contests where Hillary came in 3rd place. The bad part about S.C. is that the media will spin it as a defeat for BOTH Clintons.

Also, if JE came in 2nd, it would kill Hillary's spin that she only lost cause black people voted for a black guy. She would have no excuse to explain why JE beat her in the end.

In a two way race, going negative frequently works.

In a multiway race it can backfire, and that appears to be the case here.

The proof here is in the pudding, which will be the S.C. primary results.

56. You're pure as the driven snow, Clark2008. Smart, too. Anyone who targets
and slams Dems on these boards with the consistency that you target and slam them must be virtually perfect.

49. maybe with all this stupid bickering between Clinton and Obama
Edwards could sneak in, all this in fighting between Obama and Clinton is doing alot of damage to the Democratic Party, and it will be used by the repigs against us.

54. Since the debate, I've seen Edwards everywhere in the national media. He's
been on Letterman, KO, CNN, etc., with live interviews. Clinton and Obama, from what I've seen, are sending their representatives to speak for them. Edwards is smart to go out there and do these interviews himself. He's finally getting some media attention and putting his own face on it, instead of relying on his representatives to make the case for him.

55. Zogby -- bless his erratic heart -- is like a bohemian lover who
appears in the garden some nights with pinot noir and blood roses but on other nights is nowhere to be found far downriver boozing it up with the rabble.

One never knows what to expect next from the man.

But if he has this one right, this voter would be very encouraged.

95. Hiya, iris5426! I'm hoping for a good turnout of Democrats, a strong
finish for Senator Edwards, and a tighter, more issues-driven race after Tuesday night.

Good to see you on DU!

67. I think the best way we can help
John Edwards is to keep emailing the media. Demand attention for Edwards and then thank the networks when he gets it.

Edwards is up against two rock star candidates with deep pockets and his power is in his message and his followers.

68. Good idea? Keep SC demographics in mind.....
Total registered voters in SC: 2,246,242

Total voted in Repub primary: 442,789

That leaves: 1,803,453

Of that # non-white voters: 629,000

That leaves total white voters 1,174,353.......(Hispanic: 151,247)

Non-white voters in SC have shown up by some 20% more than white voters.

The demographics in the exit polling on Saturday will tell all about how the two groups voted.

And how come she got one more delegate than Edwards in Iowa?

Remember - it's the delegates !

I'd like nothing better than to have a tight three way race (wish it were four-way) with intelligent people, the best way to blow the "throwbacks to the 17th C" rethug candidates off the ballot.
