SECOND Poll Confirms Edwards Upwards Movement in South Carolina

Clemson University's Palmetto Poll of Saturday's Democratic primary, released earlier today, shows Obama with 27%, Clinton with 20%, and Edwards close behind with 17%; 36% said they were undecided. The poll was conducted from January 15 to 23, and therefore may understate late breaking movement in favor of Edwards. Here is a link to the poll results:

Note that the poll was conducted from Jan. 15th to the 23rd. That means only two of the days polled were after the debate.

Iowa wasn't a death knell for Clinton and Edwards, New Hampshire wasn't a death knell or Obama and Edwards and so on and so forth.

We have a long way to go and hopefully people will stop trumpeting the end of one of the top three's campaign so early on.

21. Actually it was Hillary who had for the longest time a huge lead in NH

and Obama will win SC but it's becoming more probable that Hillary will come in third--her second third place showing of the campaign if that happens. That can't be spinned away when she was very competitive in SC up until her disastrous debate performance on Monday night.

It says: "An important statistic for the Democratic primary in South
Carolina is that slightly more than half the electorate is African-American. In this poll, 55
percent of the respondents were African-American and 58 percent were female. "

Don't know about that. This from the SOS SC Election division:

Total registered voters in SC: 2,246,242
Total voted in Repub primary: 442,789
That leaves: 1,803,453

Of that: non-white registered voters: 629,000

That leaves total white registered voters 1,174,353

That is almost 2 to 1 white to non-white voters.

Other tables indicate that the 4.3 million population of SC is 29% non-white.

The figures indicated are for the Democratic Party. 55% of the Dem Party in SC is AA, 58% are women.

34. There is no political party designation when registering to vote in SC.

So if you didn't vote last week you can vote this week. As long as you registered 30 days before the election.

I subtracted the totals of those who voted in the Republican primary and that left the total registered voters available to vote in the Democratic party on Saturday, some 1.1 million.

Now, not all will vote for sure. But I believe it will be very high. More so for non-whites, one of the listed groups who number 649 thousand. They often approach 80%. I predict 90% non-whites for this election. I will be surprised if 60% whites show up.

It's clearly an exciting primary but weather may also be a factor.
