Diebold Disenfranchises San Diego
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 11:58 AM by Jack_Dawson
Surprise, surprise. The new Diebold system (which San Diego insists on using) sucks.

From all the news reports, the problem is a lot worse than seven polling places. It's widespread all over the county (and this is a big-ass county), as well as parts of "The O.C.". For a lot of people, this was the only time of day they could vote.

Good I hope the national press picks up on it.

1. Just that I know of...
We had a 40 minute delay opening the polls at my precinct this morning, and one of my friends couldn't vote at hers because they were having technical problems too.

3. We tried to warn them....
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 12:04 PM by kgfnally
the BBV folks tried to warn everyone. The response I got from my local paper (we don't use touchscreen machines in MI) was, "I don't see how this affects us here in MI."

Is there a brick wall here on DU that I can virtually beat my head against?

edit: "For a lot of people, this was the only time of day they could vote."

I'd LOVE to work for someone who tries to tell me when I can and cannot vote- just so I can sue them for the value of their business.

5. Why do they wait until election day to find the problems?
Why can't they test their systems before the polls open and in time to take care of the problems?

6. Because this is San Diego and we don't do it like that
That would be way too organized and well thought-out.

7. Won't help you now, but in GE use Absentee Ballots which will take away
some of their ability to cause problems with the count of the vote. At least, there will be a paper trail and the media won't be able to call the election....and it will cause such a hassle that they will have to either ban absentee ballots or change the machines over to papertrail ones.

Also, NO HANGING CHADS! Very easy to use, almost anyone can use them.

8. Worked in Lakeside
Worked when I voted in Lakeside, (East County). Didn't stop the sick, queasy feeling I got from using them though. General election, I plan to use an absentee ballot.
