I did not vote on a diebold machine
I had paper and felt pen. It was pink.

I nearly voted for DK, but went with the man I've spent the most money and time for- Kerry.

1. Did you have to ask for a paper ballot? And, if so,
did you have to fight for it? And was a place prepared for paper voters, or did you have to find the top of a stack of books off in a corner somewhere?

2. That was all they had
the other three people there were also voting on paper. No machines anywhere.

4. I see.
Thanks.

At my precinct, there were eight Diebolds, two greeters, two people behind one table, four behind another, two behind a third, and three "sheepherders." No paper ballots anywhere. There were eight paper strips taped to the wall outside the exit door, "receipts" printed from each machine ostensibly when the polls opened. I guessed that they're printing one per hour for display.

I intended to make a point and ask for a paper ballot, but I decided that it wasn't worth it. No one there would care. No one there would get my point. No one there had any power whatsoever, except to try to patronize me by reassuring me (cue "Stars & Stripes Forever") that "these machines are perfectly safe, and your vote will count!" That would just make me mad, and I can't afford to waste that energy.

3. I voted for the my first time here in CT
Here we used some sort of ancient looking green lever thing with little notches. you pull the lever from the left to right to close the curtain, flick the notched piece of metal down next to the name of your chosen candidate then bring the lever back from right to left which apparently records the vote somehow and opens the voting both curtain(i think this automatically reopens the curtain, i was paying close attention). First time for me on this sort of thing. All the times before I used paper ballots.

I figured somebody would misinterpret my clumsy wording. Its the first time I voted when I used something other than paper ballots. :hi: I have been voting since the 80's...

6. Same here...
Pink paper, voted for Kerry:) I was the only one in my voting place(Tobin school in Cambridge)when I went in,and still when I left. I hope the turnout isn't going to be as low as it seems to be here.

8. I voted for Dean on a paper ballot here in Ohio.
I did notice that the push-pin system works great IF you have the ballot lined up properly at the top. If you don't (it doesn't want to stay there, you have to hold it there) you could possibly cast a different vote than you intended.
