My Diebold encounter today...
I voted in Ohio, and it's punchcard balloting in my district...

...but when I went to the ATM after casting my vote, whose logo did I see in the upper right hand corner of the machine?

Diebold. Playing with my money. Now THAT's frightening. :scared:

learned here at DU that diebold started in ATM machines

ya think there's a paper record of how much $$ you/I withdrew??

IF YOU CAN DO IT FOR ATM MACHINES, WHY CAN'T YOU HAVE A PAPER TRAIL FOR VOTING MACHINES ???????????????

2. Nothing to fear, that's Diebold's primary business.
They got one of the contracts to make the voting machines because they have a lot of experience in touch screen electronics. The only problem I have with the voting machines is the inability to do a hardcopy verification.

3. I know, I was making a half-assed joke
And I do get a hard copy receipt from my ATM, every time.

4. They could have done the same with voting machines. As I understand it..
the Sec's of State who made the final decisions on the machines decided they didn't want or need the printout. I've heard a lot of different reasons....it would breach voter secrecy, costs more and isn't needed, etc.

I still think they should have a hard copy, but if you think about it, all that piece of paper would do is give you verification of a specific point in time. If you want to believe in conspiracy, the data could be changed before transmission and no one would know but the folks who made the change to the program.
