Clark Suppoters: One more catharsis--your favorite attacks on Clark
Post your favorite attack on Wesley Clark! For old time's sake.

I'll start off with my favorite: Clark Referenced the Homestead Act!

178. This thread did my heart good!!!
I remember the "He praised Bush and voted for Nixon" routine. I would have to whip out the text of the speech and the recording of Micheal Moore....Then the critics would feel stupid till the next day....

I must have whipped that speech out 75 times! But people shut up after that.

That was about the most insane. Clark caused/was involved in/instigated/etc. Waco because equipment was used that was previously at a base he commanded. Or something like that.

neocon. That was said as he publically acused * not protecting the US. As Clark said he plans to take on the military/industrial complex. As he laid out very liberal policies. Clark was and is flaming radical.

But he's a 4 star general....he must support the radical repuke regime. Absurd.

on Clark supporters here, suggesting that we were all closet Republicans. I remember all the phoney polls that were rigged to make it look like most of us thought Reagan was a great president, or that most of us voted for Shrub.

Why no Sane Person Should Even Consider Clark for Pres:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=367243

"One thing that is missing from all the lists of questionable doings that Clark has been involved in, is the fact that he was commander of Ft Hood, the army's center for mind control experiments! He wasn't just stationed there!! He was the HEAD of Ft Hood! This is the place where Colonel Michael Aquino, of the San Francisco Temple of Set fame ran his mind control experiments! What else went on at Ft Hood that we don't know about. "

148. Ummm, no...
Clark commanded the 1st Cavalry Division at Ft Hood, as a two-star, from August 92 to April 94. He was not the post commander--that would have been a 3-star, the Corps commander.

But that reminds me of another one that was truly bizarre, esp for anyone who's been in the military for any length of time:

Clark was never really in the Army at all until Clinton made him a general. Clinton was directly responsible for every star.

140. Not the worst, but certainly the strangest
I think I first heard it from Chris Matthews. I hadn't noticed myself, so I found myself watching for it. Still do. It can be maddening to find yourself looking for blinks when you want to be listening to what he's saying. One reason I took to taping every time he appeared on tv, so I could listen without watching at least once.

But then Salon.com came out with that really long, STRANGE article on Clark's blinking, or rather not blinking. And what it allegedly meant psychologically, or about underlying character. Opinions from psychiatrists to psychics. I think there was an astrologer in there too. discussion of West Point training. And analysis of "blink rates" of other politicians. Some idiot said it made him seem "reptillian." Reptillian??! It was all totally bizarre.

170. OMG! Another Mind Control Smear!
A shocking piece, even referencing a post at the Free Republic website! I always knew politics was a dirty business but I would never have guessed the shear number of distortions/fabrications used against Clark. It has been shocking to say the least:

http://archive.salon.com/ent/feature/2004/02/02/blink/index.html
You can use a free day pass to access the full article.

snip...

Christopher Carter, a well-known mentalist and stage hypnotist, told me that the mesmerizing effect of a stare is both seductive and threatening, that it can be likened to the interaction between a predator and its prey. "Being stared at is a very intimate act, and whether someone taught Clark to not blink or he knows it instinctively, he certainly could have a lot of control over other people's behavior," Carter said, laughing. "Although eye contact has fallen out of favor with hypnotists, you'll find that the eyes play a big role in the folklore of hypnosis. Svengali, after all, was a hypnotist, and he was often depicted with lightning bolts coming out of his eyes."

Hard to believe that it went so quickly. I've been a political junkie my entire life, but I never expected to care about a candidate - and defend him to the death! - as much as I cared about our guy.

This thread is bringing back a little of the "screw you - you're messing with MY GUY" feelings I often had when people posted this kind of bullshit about him!

65. The Queen of England is the smoking gun!
There was a smear thread in the P/C forum that alledged that Clark is a neo-con PNAC republican because -- PROOF! -- he was given an honorary knighthood by the Queen of England. And the poster showed "research" over the years that indicated that everyone who has ever been given the award was a PNAC republican. Oh, but only if the recipient was American AND in politics AND a recent recipient AND....

And they actually attempted to defend this position and their "research" and "proof" for an absurd amount of replies. The sole person on my ignore list is a result of this thread.

Posters confused the two, both in reference to that article and his fundraiser speech. Posters just refused to acknowledge that there was a difference between the two, that Clark was praising the efforts in Afghanistan, not Iraq, or that the war in Afghanistan actually *was* going ok for a while at one time!

I've been pretty proud of us as a group. I'm so happy that very few Clark supporters went through the bitter, sour grapes phase seen in some of the other candidates' supporters!

Rather than being bitter, we acknowledged that he did incredibly well for a *real* outsider in his first political race. And, we hope(d) that this is only the beginning for his future in helping our country!

That actually showed up in several threads over several days producing a number of speedo pix.

There were some thread titles that were too hard to even click on. I would come here, see that the number of posts was growing, and think..."Maybe I should go and help my fellow Clarkistas." But I just couldn't, I just didn't have the effort in me or the title was beyond belief. So for all those times when I took some time off, I thank all of you who were making the supreme-allied effort, because I knew you were in there, pounding away on the keys, and refusing to permit the "big lie" to continue on unchallenged.

OMG...how about NED? Huh?

My favorite NED moment was some cut-and-paste post that had been part of a thread from several weeks earlier. The reason I knew the source was because I recognized a rebuttal post had been included that I had written. As if that wasn't enough, another basher chimed in to congratulate the original poster on their research.

Huh? I stared at the screen for a few minutes, thought about commenting, but my brain got the better of me with its inner naaaaaw.

123. Shelton. A text book classic smear job that only later, when his
ties to Edwards were uncovered, was revealed as being actually part of the campaign, not just a side issue.

I really was disgusted with how little coverage Shelton got when he admitted to the Hague authorities that the "integrity and character" smear was actually just politics. If you didn't read DU or the Clark websites/newsgroups you'd never know that Shelton said that at all.

Absolutely first class work at smearing a candidate, aided and abetted by the national media. Classic.

Because people didn't really know him, & that was the first thing they heard. He never recovered from that.

152. Shelton was by far the worst
'Course, that's the one I always took personally. Military officers just don't do things like that. Well, obviously they do. But they're not supposed to. Which is why Clark never really went on the offense the way he could have. I know for a fact he had people who could have taken Shelton down a notch.

What really pisses me off was the way it morphed into a whole meme about how no one in the military liked or respected him. Some guy who thought he was gonna be SOUTHCOM commander in chief, but Shallikashvilli put Clark in instead, bad-mouthed him too (it was all a Clinton-Clark plot of course--that must be basis of Novak's "Clinton got him his 4th star--not that Novak needs a basis for anything he says), And a handful of anonymous criticisms, some by guys who admitted to not even knowing him, but had heard....

Then there was the crap in Newsweek about Colin Powell calling him "Lt Colonel," on purpose to belittle him. When Judy Woof-woof asked Powell, FIVE times, saying each time, but this is what you said--what did you REALLY mean? Powell denied ever saying anything of the sort (gee, ya think Newsweek could have asked him first?) and said "I've known Wes Clark for 20 years and he's one of the most gifted officers I know." (or something like that) Was THAT remark ever repeated?

There were SO many military people, of all ranks, who came out and said what a great commander he was, how they respected him, how he treated them with respect, and helped their careers, or their personal growth, took care of their families, and on and on and on, but that never made it into the major media.

If Clark were a different man, he'd have made more milage out of it. But I guess that would have made him a politician.

131. I don't know why I look on the bright side this morning
But I was downstairs drinking coffee and thinking about this thread. It was through the DU :tinfoilhat: interchange that we came together into battle-hardened troops for Wes. We had to fight so hard every damned day. We had to work so hard every damned day. We had to do our own rapid response research to counter the RW talking points thrown at us in every other thread by Democrats! We had to learn how to express our positions tightly and clearly and back up our points. We had to identify ourselves for our candidate and with his program and to each other. I clearly remember the first time Tom Rinaldo appeared on my radar screen - I was, like, whoah, that's how we do this! I remember WillyBrandt's Wes Clark Word of the Day. Incap's graphics for Clark, the red convertible, the cheerleader. FrenchieCat and RobbedVoter, intrepid in their links for Clark. Donna Z's reasoned analysis for Clark. Jmaier's gently lethal prods for Clark. I'm going to stop naming names or I'd be at this all day, but you're all in there, in my heart and mind. But the reason, the reason for us still being who we are for Clark, is the elegance with which we can carry our scars and laugh at the knives. I guess, in part, we can thank the Deanies and their leftie cohorts who put us through the paces at a time we needed to become who we are now: Wes Clark Democrats.

Bless 'em all :toast:

174. You almost brought me to tears here - and not cuz I am mentioned either
You really hit on something.
I am a Wes Clark democrat - this remains my political identity regardless of who I am. A lot of self questioning came out of these ferocious attacks - mostly about my belonging in the same party with these people.
The entire "you are not democrat for us" thing got to me (I only became one after the coup). Jane Shaheen's press conference - then her voting for Nixon coming out...
And after all that he is put through, this man wants to help this decayed, dying, snotty party - remind it of what it was supposed to be about - oh, well, I had to stay. But I am not a democrat like everyone else. Notin that I carry a grudge (I do, for now , but it does not define me), but I can see Clark's vision for this party - and I am willing to put in the work for it.
And I know that everyone on this thread distilled the same experiences and matured in an idealistic but effective fighter for the truth, democratic ideals.
We'll work for this election, but this is only a step in the big plan.
So, we'll stick together, I guess

We'll follow the old man wherever he wants to go
As long as he wants to go opposite to the foe

And I an damn proud to be associated with all of you guys - stick together - we are up to bigger stuff than just a campaign, and our man shall lead

We'll follow the old man wherever he wants to go
As long as he wants to go opposite to the foe

176. I remember when it all really started
I've only been registered here since October, but I had been lurking on this site since last March around the time the war started. I learned about the different candidates from reading this board and started out as a Dean supporter. However, Dean never really resonated or connected with me.

Then I started reading about the Draft movement on here. I was intrigued, and increasingly convinced that Clark would give us by far the best shot at defeating Shrub.

I was really sceptical that he would enter, but I began to fervently hope that he would, and started thinking of myself as a provisional Dean supporter.

Then Clark finally entered and I remember DU being hit with a monumental shitstorm of attacks against him of a nature that I wouldn't even have believed possible from my previous aquaintance with this site. Since I knew very little about him at the time, I had to spend a couple of weeks wading through the crap to try to learn the real facts about him before I could really consider myself a supporter. I seem to recall that the attacks were so massive and so vile that they were the impetus for the first imposition of new rules.

Supporters of a certain other candidate have whined repeatedly about how they and their candidate have been attacked with such unrelenting cruelty, and how everyone else started it. They only started behaving badly in response to attacks on them. Well, that's definitely not how I remember it, as it was mostly supporters of that particular candidate who began with the shit slinging, and never let up. Other people just started defending themselves and their candidate, and these people suddenly became innocent victims of unfair attacks.

That's how I remember the early days of Clark's candidacy around here.

That's my ramble for the evening.

180. OMG!! Best post I've read all night!
Thank you!

I was just over on another thread and was amazed to see certain supporters complaining that they were the victims of the most abuse around here. Some are saying that because of the way they were treated here is why they are still so bitter. They are acting like they are the only group that got put through the wringer here. Give me a break!

It was a lot of those same supporters who threw the most shit at us Clark supporters. Esp. those of us that had just joined DU. When their candidate was riding high they slung shit at Clark & us Clarkies for all it was worth.

The thing is we all suffered through a lot of stuff here on this forum. However, don't try to convince me that only one candidate's supporters suffered the most. It's not true. Esp. when that group threw more than their fair share of the shit around here!

181. In case y'all missed it: New Evidence has been uncovered
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 08:54 AM by Jim4Wes
that proves beyond a preponderance of the internet evidence, that Clark has used Mind Control Techniques on all of us Clarkies. That is why your bank account is mysteriously low on funds!

Now to review the internet evidence:
Original Mind Control evidence:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=367243#367243

Some would and DID say this was just a conspiracy theory, and suggested the purveyors of this tripe were "around the bend", loons, or as Will Pitt cleverly suggested that they were smelly boot smokers see here for that:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=367243#367364

But! there is now additional internet evidence, that Clark has mastered some mind control techniques, thats right, the ability NOT TO BLINK! See here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=430558&mesg_id=435783&page=

I didn't realize the weightyness of this internet evidence until this morning!

In order to replenish your bank accounts, avoid looking at any pictures of Wesley Clark, especially video clips! No damn audio either! He's clever and he has a way of putting suggestions into our minds. That is all, over and out, and put that in your boot and smoke it Will Pitt! ;)

General Clark on the ticket, he replied with a very astonished statement, "BUT HE'S A GENERAL!!!!" I told him to check out his site.
I never did convince him Clark wasn't a war monger and an arrogant hated General. Just a couple days ago he sent me an article and suggested I hadn't done enough research on the General and was just listening to his propaganda. The article looked like something Carl Rove had written himself. I think it included most the statements written on this thread. Of course he sent his condolences. He's NOT my favorite cousin anymore!
