Help Me Combat Republican Arguments
I participate in a lot of message boards and like to have strong arguments, not necessarily to the Republicans because they have their agenda, but to people who may be in the middle and can be swayed.

Can someone help me with a response to this? There are all kinds of job loss and Bush has the worst record of anyone since Hoover in terms of jobs lost. But how do we stick that to him? What is it about his policies that make job loss more likely? What is it that a president does that affects the economy and how?

Thanks for any help.

1. Read columns by Paul Krugman

He does a great job of going behind the scenes and explaining how Bush's economic policies are encouraging companies to outsource jobs.

On edit:

Krugman is an economist, so he knows what he's talking about.

Unlike the rightwing talking heads you hear mostly about.

2. Job Loss
I think ther are a couple of things to point out to these Republicans. First, much of the job loss is caused by Companies outsourcing jobs to people in foreign countries. Bush has fought legislation that would impede this. Secondly, Bush has refused to change tax laws that would impose higher tax rates on the outsourcers. Third, Bush has chosen to give tax cuts rather than invest the same funds in the U. S. infrastructure in a manner that would create jobs.
Overall, Pres. Clinton created jobs by paying down the national debt, investing in firehouses, adding 100,000 new police and generally investing in America. Because Bush has fiscally mismanaged the government, the government is not in a position to provide jobs itself nor is it in a position to make grants to companies to provide jobs. Bush has also decreased federal government aid to state and local governments which has resulted in their cutting back jobs. Bush's tax cuts also reduced the tax revenues of state governments and they have been forced to lay people off.
This should give you a start. The key theme is that Bush has decided that tax cuts primarily for people with incomes exceeding $335,000 per year is more important than investing in our country.

5. Just tell the truth. The truth wins.
All you need to do is point out Bush's record.
