I think right now because I wanna know, dammit!
But for other reasons, I think he should wait until at the convention

2. Hard to say

Since this is one of those rare things in a political race that is completely within the candidate's control, he should keep the announcement as an ace in the hole. Announce when it will have the most positive effect within the developing dynamic of the race. Of course, the convention is a hard deadline.

4. positives and negatives
the reasons FOR naming a vp early would be to get them out there campaigning and raising funds. the bad would be that there wouldn't be the huge attention and usually bounce in polls one could get closer to the election if announcement was made later

so i guess one has to consider which one of the above would be most helpful in the long run.

6. At the convention

Waiting until the convention accomplishes a few things.

1) Keeps media attention on the campaign. Every time Kerry meets with a potential VP, it's going to make the news. As this is the longest primary in history, he needs to be able to maintain media visibility in order to keep momentum.

2) The sooner a VP is announced, the right wing attack machine has another target to spread their dis-information on.

3) Announcing the VP at the convention gives a much needed 'excitement bump' to the long campaign season.

IMHO

11. Kerry won't be the nominee until the Party Convention....
It would be unseemly to name a VP choice until then.

18. he's practically got it mathematically sewed up
So naming his choice before then wouldn't be too unseemly.

12. When will the short list be announced?
I'm hearing a lot of talk in the news about the creation of a "short list" of potential VP candidates that Kerry will need to make. I've heard both Kerry and Edwards were on Gore's short list.

Does anyone know when the short list is usually announced? If we get a top ten or fifteen list of potentials within the next month, I say make the media sweat over who it will be until June.

14. Though I am ancy to hear if Edwards is in, Senator Kerry should wait..
......and drag out the free media attention associated with this looming question. A quick resoultion allows for that person to hit the campaign trail on the party's dime; but shortens th free press coverage of wondering "who..?"

Get another voice out there railing at the Shrub every day from now 'till November.

We've got them on the run. When your opponent retreats, press the attack.

20. Quite soon, but wait for a good media cycle
Next time there is a fairly big pro-Bush or anti-Kerry story, take the media's attention off of it by announcing the VEEP.

24. At the convention
Which is actually in July. Unless he wants to come to the Texas State Convention in June to show he's not writing off the South and isn't afraid to diss Busholini on his home turf. That would be cool.
