Has this been reported re Bush's re-election ads using 9/11?
This is from the CTV, Canadian television network.....Apparently not only the families of the Twin Towers deceased but the New York Firefighters are all angry with Bush for using the 9/11 attack to promote himself in his political re-election ads....I haven't heard this reported on CNN or anywhere on American TV....Only that the Democrats were angry about it....

1. Yahoo's been carrying the AP story
at the top of their site for most of the day:

Looks like Boy Wonder may have stepped in it this time.

It's a powerful denunciation of Bush.* It needs to get around.

Fire Fighters President Says Use of Fire Fighter Images in New Bush Ads Smack of Political Opportunism

3/3/04 6:34:00 PM

WASHINGTON, March 3 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The General President of the International Association of Fire Fighters, AFL-CIO (IAFF), Harold Schaitberger, issued the following statement today after President Bush unveiled new political ads that use images of fire fighters in September 11, 2001 attacks for political gain:

-- As Bush Trades on Heroism of Fire Fighters, His Homeland Security Funding Cuts Hurt Fire Fighters and Communities --

"I'm disappointed but not surprised that the President would try to trade on the heroism of those fire fighters in the September 11 attacks. The use of 9/11 images are hypocrisy at its worst. Here's a President that initially opposed the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and now uses its first anniversary as cause to promote his re-election. Here is a President that proposed two budgets with no funding for FIRE Act grants and still plays on the image of America's bravest. His advertisements are disgraceful.

"Bush is calling on the biggest disaster in our country's history, and indeed in the history of the fire service, to win sympathy for his campaign. Since the attacks, Bush has been using images of himself putting his arm around a retired FDNY fire fighter on the pile of rubble at ground zero. But for two and a half years he has basically shortchanged fire fighters and the safety of our homeland by not providing fire fighters the resources needed to do the job that America deserves.

6. It is time to make the point that 911 happened on Bush's watch!
Edited on Thu Mar-04-04 01:28 PM by jansu
He is responsible! Since he was Commander-in-Chief at the time, he had the responsibility of protecting America. Instead, he did nothing before or during the attacks. He sat (and pretended he can read), at the school with the children. We need to make it a subject that they want to run away from! Then watch how bad it is for them in New York City at their convention....they won't be able to use the Twin Tower site for part of the ceremony, like there is talk of doing. What mind came up with using such a death site for anything political?

He is now saying that He has kept us safe! We were safe until he sat in the White House! He did not keep us safe!

9. Yes, I agree the time is right to make this point.
Why is it that he feels he should be REWARDED for 9-11 happening?

The times have changed since the shock and awe of 9-11. He wants to claim some role as national savior and protector. But the pictures of that catastrophe just remind the viewer of the terrible thing he allowed to happen.

This backfires not just because it is tasteless and offensive, but because it raises again that question that has never been answered: HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?

14. But only if WE and the media ask it? Need to get some ads out
asking these questions! If you have some ideas for ads, send them to moveon.org or truthandhope.org They both are going to be putting money toward getting these messages out there.

I suggest writing letters to the editors of your local newspapers and making pamphlets which you leave everywhere you go. Make them informative and polite....not like you are bashing Bush, but want answers to some of these questions. Make sure that you ask those who take one, to print out as many as they can and place them in places they go to. Remember, pamphlets were what the Founding Fathers used to get their message out to the people....against the British, The White Rose Society used it against the Nazi's....that would put us in good company.

We must keep it in the public eye! We can't count on Bush making the same mistake, again. I am sure they will take it off the airwaves....but maybe they think it gets the message they want across to the "faithful right wingers" more than it harms them. He can't open his mouth without saying 911, (reminds me of his father, "New World Order"), he has nothing else to run on.....so let's make sure he does not have this either.

If anyone needs (can't imagine anyone on these boards needing help) something to print out in pamphlet form, email "takebackourrepublic@yahoo.com" and several articles will be emailed back to you for printing and distributing.

15. Note: 8 months in, attackers arrived by July.
Because they'll throw up WTC bombing in '93,
ONE MONTH into Clinton's watch,
while he was taking care of domestic issues.
and the FBI was busy investigating him for Republicans,
instead of investigating terrorists for the country.

Clinton said he'd get 'em. Clinton did.

They were due to be sentenced on 9/11/01, yes, that 9/11
but, sentencing was moved back due to 9/11.

Bush skipped the European anti-terrorism conference.
Bush ignored the bipartisan report on terrorism

Clinton got that report while election was is full swing.
And, while we were still an nation respected and even loved.
and it could wait a couple months for a new adminstration.

Bush made light of Clinton trying to hit OBL while on the campaign trail.

10. Did you notice that she is shaking her head NO the whole time!
We should use that picture in an ad, having Bush say all his lies, and then show that clip of her shaking her head NO, after each statement. Would be funny and get the point across that no one believes him!

9/11 Victims' Kin Angered by Bush Ads

March 4, 2004 11:31 AM EST

WASHINGTON - Relatives of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and a firefighters union are angry that President Bush's new campaign ads include images of the destroyed World Trade Center and firefighters carrying a flag-draped coffin through the rubble.

They say the ads are in poor taste and accuse Bush of exploiting the attacks

12. Let's fight fire with fire
Have shirts printed up guaranteeing 9/11 as *'s legacy. That's what the lowlife college repugs have been doing except they blame Clinton.

Somehow * is counting 9/11 as some sort of victory instead of failure. That's just unconscionable. It may be difficult to move it to the L column on *'s record. I don't understand how anyone can see it any other way.

They got the message fast.....it's working!:toast: Now, what are they going to run on? Negative ads against our Nominee! Bring it On! (I hate that phrase, but seemed appropriate).

18. I think it's damaging to Bush that the FIREFIGHTERS who he claims to
be championing as heroes of 9/11 don't have much of an opinion of him!
That could perhaps be used to the Dems advantage?...
