Pissed and insulted....
So I posted last night about our grass-roots efforts along the Panhandle here in Florida.....

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=430307&mesg_id=430307

I spent days and hours setting this site up for the local organization and just finished coordinating with National Campaign this morning about getting it linked to the National Site as an independent grass-roots effort...

Then I got this email this morning:

"Chris
Please don't take this as an insult but these ladies do it for a living. I'm sure it will be easier for all.
Thanks for all your help John"

can anybody here tell me what's wrong with this site???

www.panhandleforkerry.com

Damn I guess they are used to firing people in this campaign (all- though this is strickly volunteer) ...

I miss my old Clark friends...

I'm going drink some beers now....

See you all when I sober up...

4. What are they talking about
"these ladies do it for a living?" So you shouldn't put up your own website if you feel like it? Very strange.

5. That was the whole e-mail?
There is nothing wrong with your site. I think the problem is on the other end of the e-mail.

6. BFD. They won't link to your website
Do you really think any candidate and/or party is obligated to link to your web page? Do you think any candidate or party has the time and money to review every website that someone wants them to link to?

We are being confronted by issues that make the importance of your website pale in comparison. Maybe you should focus on the big picture, such as why you created that website to begin with, and whether or not you really need to be linked in order to achieve your goals.

10. Thanks for clearing that up. I was fixing to be really disappointed.
I am sorry for you, though. I'm just relieved that it's not as it first appeared - that JK's campaign was saying they didn't want any help from grassroots and volunteers.

8. That reeks of "politics as usual"
Edited on Thu Mar-04-04 02:20 PM by DancingBear
You should follow up on that email - ask them what it means. Are grassroots folks not welcome, or is it perhaps just a pragmatic decision predicated on them wanting control and not wanting any "loose cannons" about.

If the campaign is going to be conducted like a "professional" one I am very leery...

edit: I'm confused - What organization was it that turned down your efforts? Not the Kerry campaign? I thought it was.

Read his follow-up posts. He needs to edit to make it clear. He's talking about some local organizers in his area.

14. To Dem in Florida
It seems like you showed a lot of enthusiasm & expended a lot of effort to try & help the Kerry reelection effort. And I really respect all your work.

The Kerry campaign has always been a top down organization. I don't think they understand grass roots efforts, or maybe they don't value them very much. After all, they beat Dean, & then Clark, right?

All they really want is our money & then our vote. I know you're sad, but take this as a valuable lesson of politics. If you fall in love, they'll break your heart.

15. I'm sorry to say
your site isn't very good looking. I understand you probably put a lot of work into it, but it just doesn't look that great.

I speak as someone who tried to do website design for a while, until I realized that I was far better at the coding aspect than the "make it look good" aspect.

Sorry again... I feel back for criticizing... =(

17. WHY DON'T YOU EDIT YOUR POST
you said the kerry campaign itself has been very helpful and this is another site not associated with the official campaign. you need to make it clear. a bunch of people are jumping in claiming this shows the campa ign doesn't want their help and other things that are not true.
