Latinos in ‘comfort zone’ with Clinton
Hispanic support may be key to Super Tuesday outcome

Updated: 02/02/08 7:23 AM...The Latino community’s comfort with the Clintons leaves the New York senator with a 3-to-1 lead among California Hispanics in a recent Field Poll. That could make a huge difference for Clinton in the state that’s by far the biggest prize of the 22 states that will vote in primaries and caucuses on Super Tuesday.
Hispanics constitute nearly a quarter of the electorate here, and they also provide a significant percentage of voters in New York, Illinois, New Mexico and Arizona, which will also vote on Super Tuesday. And that means both campaigns have been stepping up their efforts to win over Hispanics, with Obama playing catchup to a Clinton effort that dates back to the early days of the campaign a year ago.
The Clinton campaign has gone out of its way to reinforce her image among Latinos, stressing that she spent time in Texas registering Latino voters when she was young and that she put together White House conferences on Hispanic issues while serving as first lady.
“Latinos remember that and know that,” said Fabiola Rodriguez- Ciampoli, director of Hispanic communications for the Clinton campaign....
