Morbid Thoughts
What happens if there is a plane crash or something else horrific that happens to Kerry AFTER the nominating convention (I wouldn't put anything past this administration), is there a contingency plan to select a nominee?

1. I wouldn't put anything past the repugs now---they're desperate
and desperate men are the most dangerous of them all.

2. They'd probably set up a new convention.
Brokered or something, the guy with the most delegates before gets the nomination. Then again, the selected vice presidential candidate might get pushed forward, which would actually be interesting... wouldn't make sense.

4. Don't worry your head about that. BushCo is quite happy to run
against the liberal Senator from Taxachusetts. They won't raise a finger against him. From their point of view there is very little liklihood of any sizeable defection from their base. No way a serious GOPer is going to vote for Kerry, even if he was running unopposed. By the time November roles around the only hope we have is for Bush to do something so outrageous that even the media won't be able to cover it up, or spin it. It could happen.

They couldn't pick a better candidate to run against if they had chosen him themselves...

Hmmmmm...

5. So in other words...
We should just run the most appeasing, centrist, triangulating milquetoast we can find? :eyes: We're not going to win the election by pandering. We're going to win the election by energizing our own base to get at least -half- turnout this year. Turnout is disgusting, and do you know why people don't vote? Because they don't care. We need someone who can MAKE them care.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't think Kerry is that person. He was rather low on my list in fact. And I don't think he's quite as liberal as he makes himself out to be. But I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The point is, we can't just back down because they threaten us with the L-word... We're liberals, goddammit, and we're proud of it. And you know why we're proud of it? Because our message is the right one. Because what we believe in is what the people believe in. They just don't know it. But we can teach them.

6. Apparently there are eight back ups who should move up
to the plate. Why can't one of the candidates next in line be chosen? Or is this solution too complicated for everyone?
