I want to thank my fellow Illinois DU'ers for links and other information as we near the Illinois Senate primary. Right now the three of us...Cook County Suburban Democrats (yes, we're really here in the heart of Repugnicanland) are leaning toward Obama, while I also like Gerry Chico (education is a very big issue in our house).
For those not paying attention, both primaries are turning into investigations into the messy divorces of two of the candidates...Democrat Blair Hull (who has fallen from leading the polls a couple months ago) and the Repugnican front-runner Jack Ryan.
Looks like his GOOP bretheren wanna know about the latest Mr. Ryan's troubled past...
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/special_packages/election2004/8099410.htmCHICAGO - Republican Senate candidate Jack Ryan plans to make some records stemming from his California divorce public following demands from his rival GOP contenders.
Ryan, an investment banker-turned-teacher who is ahead of his opponents in recent polls, did not attend the Wednesday debate where his rivals brought up the issue. He was at a previously scheduled, $300 per ticket fund-raiser, campaign manager Jason Miller said.
He said records of Ryan's divorce from television and film actress Jeri Ryan were never sealed and will be made available Thursday. However, records related to the custody of Ryan's 9-year-old son are sealed and will remain closed for the child's sake, he said.
"The judge clearly states that it's for the protection of his (Ryan's) son," Miller said. "Jack's very protective of his 9-year-old son, Alex."
GOP contenders made their demand at a live hour-long debate for Republican candidates sponsored by WTTW-Channel 11 and the City Club of Chicago.

A local TV report indicates that the reason Mr. Ryan isn't unsealing his divorce papers was not only to protect his 9 year old son, but that it also contained testimony that could be "damaging to his political career". Hmmmm.
I was no fan of Hull...just like Repugnican Oberweis...who is trying to buy the seat...and to see him getting passed by other more qualified candidates is a good feeling, while the Repugnicans are sure to nominate this game show host with a bit of a domestic problem. I can hear Oberweis at the next debate asking "OK, Mr. Ryan...how bad DID you beat your wife?" Don'tcha love it when they eat their own?
