5. Obstructive pancreatitis. |
A gallstone slipped into the pancreatic duct, and his pancreas is now infected. He's in ICU, but he is not in 'critical' condidtion.

which can go from annoying to life threatening PDQ. Depending on the cause, it could put him out of action for a week or two, or forever.

8. severe pancreatitis cases can indeed be life-threatening. |
The prognosis depends on whether the inflammation was bad enough to do serious damage to the pancreas, in turn leading to low blood pressure and damage to other organs. In very severe cases, death can occur.

16. A disease of alcoholics |
gall stone pancreatitis is one of those things like cirrhosis that's fairly rare but common in winos. I'm just saying... I doubt Ashcroft's a big drunk... he slurs his words and his eyes are always wet and bright red, but that doesn't mean anything. Nothing at all. And he doesn't do erratic things except for that time he called a press conference to announce a terror arrest and said a bunch of untrue and sort of crazy things and the White House had to distance themselves from his version of the charges.

20. Pancreatitis is really not that rare in alcoholics |
It's one way that people can die of alcholism. Sometimes not the first time, but if you keep drinking there will be more attacks. I don't know about gallstone pancreatitis, though. I've heard it called alcoholic pancreatitis. Didn't know if gallstones were involved in that type.
