2. The Nader factor would be gone.

Bush didn't balance his ticket because he knew that to unite his party he would have to go away from center. Kerry needs to move away from the Republicans and run with a true Democrat, like Kucinich.

4. Kerry can't go with Kucinich

I could see him picking a liberal (probably Sens. Durbin or Feingold), but Kucinich is just too liberal to win nationwide. The media would lampoon him and in a national election, image and media perception does matter. His quixotic campaign for president, while noble, would be a detriment to Kerry's campaign. Possibly down the road Kucinich could be considered a more serious VP contender, but he has to build up his stature as a force not only in the House, but in Ohio (he has to be considered a viable candidate for statewide elections, which he really isn't now). Possibly this newfound fame will lend itself to a Senate run in 2010 or a governor's run in 2010, which would lead him to a potential candidacy in the future, but now is not the time.

And Dean would be the dumbest choice he could ever think of. It isn't going to happen. He's going to pick someone from swingstate or region, and who is perceived to be moderate.
