27. Like I said the MEDIA is the ones that made that announcement...
Not one time did her people say they were going w/o pay. They said that if they had to keep money in the campaign they would!!! The MEDIA is the one that put the spin on this and shame on everyone that believed them...

52. The MEDIA? Howard freaking Wolffson is the one who said staffers were going without pay.
http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/2008/02/clinton-staffer.html

A day after disclosing that some top staffers in Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton presidential campaign were going without pay, spokesman Howard Wolfson just said the practice has ended because of the campaign's strong fundraising this week. Clinton collected $4 million Wednesday.

"The response in the last 24 hours has been overwhelming," Wolfson said. He added that it made the decision of campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle and other top aides to go without pay in February unnecessary.

"It lasted a day," Wolfson said.

Can you find even one direct quote before the fact that any person in the Hillary Campaign spoke about this to her supporters begging for money?

35. Hillary bashers came out screaming when they found in newly released reports $5 million
she had loaned the campaign, alluding that it was recent.

Hillary had to quash the rumors that the loan was recent, and she did this for all the world to see. She clearly stated that it had taken place last month, and said her staff was not going without pay.

She never was "playing her own supporters for fools". It's all lies from those that wish her ill.

49. quotes from her own staff:
ABC News' Kate Snow Reports: Members of Senator Hillary Clinton's senior campaign staff have agreed to work without pay for the month of February. Communications Director Howard Wolfson called the move "a show of solidarity with Hillary Clinton".

Campaign Manager Patti Solis Doyle is one of those who will forego a paycheck for the month. Solis Doyle told ABC News she offered the Senator her services for free. She said she was not asked to take a pay cut.

did she say she was working for free...ABC snip the comments and interview where they wanted it to make it look like that so they could broadcast that the campaign was in trouble...They said she was not paid, she said if she had to she would work for free...there is a big difference and alot of spin there and true Hillary supporters saw right through that!

When Hillary's staff found out the campaign was running short of money, after Hillary injected $5M of her own funds, they offered to go without pay, until the campaign replenished it's treasury..

A far cry from a political STUNT as portrayed by the OP!

Remember when Judith Miller, et. al. sourced Scooter Libby? They called him a "former Congressional staffer" or something like that.

Dick Morris was a longtime Democratic consultant, and he isn't affiliated with any campaign--because no one in their right fucking mind will have him!

And he's a champion "wonderer."

And he certainly wouldn't have any 'motive' to spin, now, would he?

61. So, did the MEDIA make up Wolfson and Doyle saying staffers were going without pay?
They said it on the record.

When you tell the press that key staffers are going without pay in a "show of solidarity" for Clinton, don't you think you're telling the media that your campaign is flat broke?

Good God, I seriously do not understand this sudden urge to "blame the media" for something totally on the record and sourced right out of the Clinton camp. Jesus.

15. Aha! I posted this theory last night.
I was thinking she might be faking it, but that she couldn't possibly, because she'd be exposed when 1st quarter fundraising stats are released.

Then I thought to myself, "She doesn't care about that, either."

Guess that's why Mark "Fat Bastard" Penn was hemming and hawing his way through an MSNBC interview this morning.

Wow... so why did Patti Boyle tell Halperin she was going without pay, and then today told him she's back on the payroll?

This shit is going to backfire.

from some Obama supporters that the "rumors flying around" about Gore endorsement of Obama is simply a setup to provoke more sympathy for Clinton. She will do and say anything.

43. I'll name one of the political operatives
Terry "McAwful" McAuliffe. Per Politico:

Terry McAuliffe told donors and reporters on a conference call that the campaign has raised $7.5 million online this month, more than $6 million of it in the last 24 hours. The message: She's alive and kicking.

Interestingly, the campaign's spin is that Clinton's loan to the campaign -- taken by many as a sign of desperation -- was an effective fundraising tactic, encouraging people to donate.

"They said, 'I didn’t know you needed money, I thought you had all the money you need,'" McAuliffe said.

More evidence of cash on hand, per McAuliffe: "We are going up immediately in Washington state, Maine and Nebraska," he said of a planned television campaign, which will feature former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey in his home state. The campaign would run ads in Ohio and Texas starting early next week.

the ugly twists and turns that happened in WJC's first term. Too idealistic...both HRC and WJC...when they got to the rat nest of DC. Woodward depicts them realistically, warts and all...Clinton's yelling, Hillary's coldness.......But right wing? No. They did what they could in that period of quasi-post Reagan crapola. So should Obama's supporters abandon him when they know about the money he got from nuclear power's Exelon Corp.? No. Nobody's perfect, except in the eyes of the idealist who hasn't learned much about the world.

31. Oh for God's sake give me a break
First of all if you actually read the story it seems the media is at fault for blowing it out of proportion and second she loaned her own campaign 5 million PROBABLY SO THAT THE CAMPAIGN STAFFERS WOULD NOT HAVE TO GO WITHOUT PAY.

What's so f'ing sinister about that? :eyes:

And no I'm not decided on either Clinton or Obama yet. I just can't stand the histrionics.

76. Just desserts
I think it is a popular story on here because this was completely a creation of the HRC campaign. They attempted to create this story for their own benefit but it ended up backfiring on them.

Cliché: You got your just desserts
1. You go what you deserved.
2. Justice was served.

36. Kind of insulting to her supporters if it's true, isn't it?
You might treat four-year olds that way, tell them fibs for their own benefit - but adults? To get their money? Her campaign will have a hard time convincing anyone she's sincere next time she makes a plea.

50. Read my previous reply...
The media spun this...Hillary supporters listened to what was actually said and gave donations willingly. Patti Solis Doyle never once said she was going w/o pay! Fox News said that, and now the national media is eating their own words and spinning it again to make Hillary look bad. They want Obama to run against McCain bc they know they will beat him and have no shot against Hillary

66. Umm, according to Howard Wolfson, Patti Doyle did make a decision to go without pay.
Last time I checked, Howard Wolfson isn't a member of the, umm, media.

Or is USA Today just making up quotes and tacking Hillary's spokesman's name on them? :eyes:

http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/2008/02/clinton-staffer.html

A day after disclosing that some top staffers in Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton presidential campaign were going without pay, spokesman Howard Wolfson just said the practice has ended because of the campaign's strong fundraising this week. Clinton collected $4 million Wednesday.

"The response in the last 24 hours has been overwhelming," Wolfson said. He added that it made the decision of campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle and other top aides to go without pay in February unnecessary.

Hell, it's probably Dick Morris

I wouldn't believe an unnamed "consultant" regardless of WHO the candidate is. :eyes:

no love lost for the Clintons. Rightly or wrongly, his "opinion" wouldn't be objective or agenda-free, IMO.

95. He was the same when he worked for the Clintons as he is now. His specialty is polling and
focus groups. The Clintons had to test everything out on focus groups before they did anything.

You may not recall, but Clinton brought a bunch of right wingers into his administration to try to appease the Repos. He hired Dave Broder as his Press Secretary, for instance.

I saw a Clinton supporter post a while back about how unfair Broder is in his assessment of Clinton, and I just had to laugh. Clinton brought it on himself, literally.

56. Unnamed source?
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 06:03 PM by Marie26
Eh. If it's true, that's annoying. But it's a theory spun by one "unnamed source" who "wonders" if it was all a conspiracy. The campaign says that the donations were the reason that they don't have to skip any paychecks. "That outpouring is the reason that a handful of senior staff who had offered to go without pay on Wednesday have been told today that they will not need to skip paychecks." If that's true, OK. We'll know the truth when the fundraising reports come out, right? Is that the end of Feb?

73. This is exactly what I thought when I heard her speak
"One longtime Democratic consultant not affiliated with any campaign wondered if perhaps the whole thing wasn't a big stunt to garner media attention and look like an 'underdog.'"

Hillary once again plays the sympathy card in an effort to generate a reactive surge of support.

79. Do you doubt that Obama raised 17 million more dollars in January than Clinton?
If you accept the reported figures, then Hillary does need more money in order to remain competitive with Obama, whether or not some of her staff give up their pay for a month or not.

Candidate supporters only give money to candidates they support. Obama could be desperate for money, and his campaign is still not where I would send any right now. Clinton's campaign obviously needs to kick up fund raising a notch to compete over the next six weeks with Obama.

Meanwhile, Obama supporters, knowing that Obama does not "need" more money, are cheering each other on to give Obama more money. Do friends let friends give hard earned money to someone who doesn't "need" it?

This whole supposed controversy is stupid. Both campaigns want more money and it is clear that Clinton raised a lot less of it in January than did Obama. Obviously the people who are donating money to both campaigns are doing so voluntarily believing that by giving the candidate they support more cash, there is a better chance that they will win. That is the bottom line and all of the rest of this is dumb spin.
