Poll question: GD-P2004 political demographics; where are ya from?
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 02:47 PM by Padraig18

DU-ers by location:

I'm interested in the demographics. All geopgraphic assignments are arbitrary, final and unappealable. :P

unfortunately, I don't stray into Cardinals Country- anything south of Peoria is Cardinals Country.

I live 12 blocks south of Wrigley in Lincoln Park, one of Chicago's many neighborhoods.

Its a weird categorization that separates MN from IA.
I live in the mid-west. In Minneapolis. Never heard of North-Central. More precisely I live in the upper mid-west, which includes MN, WI, IA and the Dakotas. The broader mid-west includes NE, KS, MO, IL, IN, and MI. In MN we think Ohio is the east coast. But otherwise an interesting poll.

29. Huh
It strikes me as a weird categorization that puts Ohio on the east coast - we should BE so lucky! It's a 9-10 hour drive to Boston or NYC from Cleveland.

61. Yeah that seems wierd to me, too (native MNer)
I've lived a good part of my life in the southern part of Minnesota (Rochester, and also near Mankato), which is a part of the state that could be Iowa for all practical purposes: we get our TV and radio from Mason City if we don't have cable.

Agreed about OH-- that's way out east, isn't it? I mean, you guys are right next to Pennsylvania, which is practically New York or New Jersey, right?

35. Mayby it's just that progressives in the Midwest need to get
online to find someone who agrees with them.

On a less pessimistic note, I was born and raised in OH and I think things are changing there. Midwesterners are starting to get turned off by the exterme idealogues in power, their fiscal irresponsibility, their heavy handed tactics, and their habit of forcing their Christian Fundamentalist beliefs on the rest of us. These Republicans just aren't very nice and they aren't very honest, and that doesn't play well in the Midwest.

The RW theocracy is turning LOTS of moderate Republicans off in IL, which is one reason we Democrats are becoming the majority party in this state...

My mom told me one of her friends who had always voted Republican and came from a Republican family said she and her husband will never vote for a Republicna again. She's heard other stories like this from friends of friends etc.
