18. A good journalist doesn't show preference. Judy worked for McNeil-Leher.
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 04:06 PM by WiseMen
Curing her long stint there the rumor was she was pretty liberal-- though I think her husband Al Hunt is more conservative that she was in the old days.

24. Judy today vs McNeil days is night and day
or maybe its just the style of the show. She used to good in-depth interviews on that PBS show. But her Inside Politics is all soundbites and rumor and interrupting people when they are trying to talk. typical garbage

4. In spite of her Repug talking points, I felt Clark countered
fairly well, It's obvious to the American people that Kerry will be their next president.

6. I thought he did great
and it makes me wonder sometimes what he reads, because he sure has the talking points down to a tee. For example, he pointed out Bush flip flops and lol said when Kerry was in the Senate Bush was ...ummm hesitation....running a baseball team. For a minute there I thought he was going to say that Bush was a drunk.

8. He said he wasn't interested in that
Which is not the same as saying no. Judy didn't even push Clark toward the corner of saying would he accept if Kerry came to him and said, "Look Wes, I need you." Clark may not be interested in Being VP, but that still isn't exactly the same as saying No.

11. Wes said....
He's not interested...doesn't mean he wouldn't accept if he felt it would put Kerry in the White House.

Should he have said...."yes, I am interested?"....no, he answered just right...

"I am interested in DOING WHATEVER IS NEEDED to get Kerry into the White House".......

translation:....my interest lies in getting George Bush out of the White House......whatever that takes......if I should need to appear on the ticket to shore up National security transition doubts on the part of voters....I will do that....But no, I am not actively seeking the Vice Presidency.

21. Actually, he didn't say no, he just said he "wasn't interested"
in the VP job, he was interested in getting John Kerry elected. Obviously if Kerry offers him the job (assuming he hasn't already) that will mean that Kerry thinks Wes will be the biggest help in getting him elected--so of course Wes will accept.

Now, if Woodruff had asked him point blank if he's take the VP job if offered and he'd said "absolutely not!" then I'd be worried.

15. And People Say Clark Can't Think On His Feet?
There were no gaffes and Clark's responses were seamless and smooth. His responses on Kerry's voting record read like a pre-written screenplay, they were so concise and convincing. I particularly liked his point about the fact that Americans don't want a ideologue coming into office with a pre-set agenda who can't adjust to the facts, but instead want someone who is willing to weigh the issues and change his mind when he has to.

Clark is very painful to watch, as I know that America and the American people have missed a chance to elect a tremendous individual.

23. I think all the candidates were in semi-zombie mode at times during
campaign. Good rest does wonders. Kerry himself was like a
walking dead man during some days of the Iowa campaign -- he was
both exhausted and sick with a bad cold.

29. I'm there too, almost
I picked up a "Veterans for Kerry" bumper sticker on Friday, but can't figure out where to put it. I don't use my bumper because 1) it's hard to get off without scratching the finish and 2) it's harder to see down there. But where will it fit, around my "United We Stand" flag (however OBE thanks to Bush), and my two Clark stickers which are NOT coming off.

It would be a good thing to be able to see out my back window.

20. Wes Clark was great, as always.
Pointing out Bush's failure to keep his word on The Iraq War Resolution, No Child Left Behind, raiding the Social Security Trust for tax cuts largely for the wealthy ,among other broken promises is not a Kerry flip-flop.

We must demand that the media not fall for the RNC line and endlessly repeat such an erroneous assertion. Kerry has not changed his position; Bush has not kept his word--another sign of his failed presidency.

22. I have come to the conclusion that Wes will be the VP nominee...
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 04:09 PM by Gloria
I decided after seeing him with Wolf on CNN on Sunday. And then Kennedy.
Also, because I am pretty sure the VP is already decided (don't ask me why, I won't tell)

Also...I believe this was decided many months ago.

Too many odd occurrences and actions that lead me to this conclusion, and those don't even include the Clinton remark about how we'd lose if we didn't field candidates strong on national security.

Look at who ran. Who else is strong on national security. Bob Graham didn't even get out of the starting gate and he doesn't have the experience of Clark.

I think Clark's run was a way to get him out there, a little seasoned in politics. He was happy as a clam when he quit and he went right to Kerry. He also has campaigned representing Kerry...solo...in Georgia, where it was close, and then in Kansas.

Listen to Clark, Kerry, and Kennedy. (Kennedy, who usually sticks to domestic issues.) Clark put out the issues in a more concrete way than Dean, Kerry and Kennedy "stole" the Clark remarks. No, they didn't steal...I think it's part of a bigger plan.

Clark, Clinton, Kerry, Kennedy.

27. I think "no" is "no"
He was very clear today. He said he ran to be the president, but the voters chose Kerry. He said he wasn't interested.

Clark is not playing games with us folks, he never has. He will do everything he can to get John Kerry elected.

He is a great Democrat, the party is lucky to have him.

He has consistently hit them out of the park. If you missed that and want to imagine that he was somehow less that the best, you need to go to US4clark and watch all the performances. Amazing. He handled Russert like no other. If any other candidate spent all of their debate time answering questions about "being a Democrat" or "Shelton" and then dissed for not answering policy questions, how would their debates have been?

Wesley Clark is among our best and brightest, and believing that he had "dead man walking" days tells me that you spent your time outside the theater shilling for your own candidate, while missing a stellar performance.

28. Donna, I think Kerry could draft Clark if he felt strongly enough
I tend to agree with you, Clark is not trying to win the nod. I suspect, of the bunch, Kerry is the only candidate who Clark might serve as VP under, because Clark respects Kerry's experience and grasp on issues. Furthermore, it would only work if Kerry really wanted Clark, rather than just thinking that Clark would help Kerry most to win the election. For Clark to accept the VP now, I think he would need a pretty clear understanding of what his role would be and the type of working relationship he would have with Kerry. Their personal chemistry might make it possible.

Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 07:14 PM by Donna Zen
if Kerry would ask. I believe Clark might have an interest in SoS...because it is his first love (after his family.) Nevertheless, I think Holbrooke offers so much $$$, media, and has been in line for so long, that he has first refusal.

With the numbers running the way they are now, Kerry may feel he has breathing room. I disagree. November is a long way off.

Anyway, the Democratic party had better pick up their ears, Clark wields the smoothest knife in the business. George Bush was in baseball. Hahahahaha! Sometimes I think he just makes this stuff up on the spot, and laughs about it later.
