1. Senator John Heinz
does anyone know what year john heinz was first elected to the senate ? is rick santorum serving in the seat that was held by heinz ? and if chris heinz considered running for office he should consider running against rick santorum whenever he comes up for reelection since i can't stand that prick.

2. A DUer in the Senate!
No offense Jeff Seemann, but Heinz running for Senate would be ten times more interesting for DU than your bid for Congress.

There's more class, charm and charisma in that small family group than any R white house has EVER seen.

6. What a contrast is this family of privilege to the Bush clan!
I'm so impressed with their interests and achievements, and the fact that none of them, unlike the Bushes, has dedicated his or her life to enriching others as wealthy as themselves. There should be, in families like this, a lesson taught at the dinner table that with privilege comes responsibility for those less fortunate -- or, at the least, responsibility to become a contributing member of society. The Kerrys and Heinzes, and their parents before them, obviously instilled this lesson.

Thanks for posting this, DrFunkenstein --

7. They Don't Seem Condescending About Making The World A Better Place
It doesn't seem to me like they are like, "Look at how charitable I am." It really seems that they believe in leaving the world a better place than they found it. I know that Kerry was touched for life by John Kennedy's inaugural speech, and Teresa witnessed first-hand a dictatorship. I have friends that are Brazilian and lived under the military dictatorship, and I can tell you that they had very strong feelings about the value of democracy. I cannot imagine that this didn't affect Teresa.

I also know that for years and years, Kerry did not spend one weekend in D.C. He would go back to Boston to be with his children (who lived with his first wife). That impresses me.

I don't blame the Bush girls for being a little wild - honestly, I probably would be, too. But it amazes me what talented, down-to-earth children have come from the Kerry-Heinz family. Back when I was an angry, young radical (a few years ago, who am I kidding), I kinda thought that wealth almost inevitably put people in a bubble and they couldn't help but be full of sh*t. Since then, I have softened up my class warfare, and I'm glad to say that this family has proven me fabulously wrong.
