Poll question: Why do you post in this form (General Discussion: Primaries)?
Edited on Thu Feb-14-08 03:21 PM by andym
I am curious as to why people post here. The level of discourse is very mixed. Many who are old enough to know better act like we are conducting a high school election. That is not surprising, since the level of political discourse in the USA has been at a low level for quite some time (remember the 1988 election, with Willie Horton and the Flag amendment). In any case, this is a grand tradition of American politics. The election of 1800 was far dirtier. In that election, Thomas Jefferson was tarred as a murderous, atheistic revolutionary who would kill his opponents and ban God.

My answer:
Occasionally, I come here to hear the latest news from the grassroots and get a feel for how the most extreme supporters think.

ps--I've added another choice- asking if anyone gets paid to post here, though I doubt anyone would honestly answer it!
pps-I've added one more choice, though by definition, few should answer it

9. Honest answer -- It's about something tangible. And "Amen Choruses" are boring.
Edited on Thu Feb-14-08 02:57 PM by Armstead
Tangible because maybe it's like professional sports, you know with who's up and whose down, and an ever-changing picture.

Not an "Amen Chorus." I like a contest. Although the supportive environment of DU in terms of us versus the Big Bad GOP is important too, it gets kind of boring to things that boil down to: "Bush sucks." "Yes he does." "I agree he really sucks.".......

Plus on a somewhat more elevated level, this forum gives us a chance to inject our own thoughts and beliefs and support or opposition of candidates beyond out own personal circles into the overall political zeitgeist in primary season.

11. 1 hour poll summary: Astonishing results!
After one hour, the poll results are as follows:

No one is here to promote their candidate or attack the opponent! This is astonishing IMHO.

3 votes for civil interaction
4 votes for grass roots news
8 votes for other

That is all.
