April 25th, 2004
What is it?
On April 25th thousands of women, men and youth from around the country and around the world will gather in Washington, DC, united in their outspoken opposition to Bush administration policies that deny women around the world access to rights and healthcare. This administration continues to promote extremist policies that eliminate U.S. funding for international family planning programs, restrict a woman's right to choose, and deny youth access to life-saving sexual health education. The March for Women's Lives advocates for women's rights to health care, access to family planning services, and the right to make decisions about their own bodies - all of which help to save women's lives and protect the environment.
Why Sierra Club?
As a co-sponsor of the March for Women's Lives, Sierra Club members will march to show their support for women's rights and lives. The Sierra Club's Global Population and Environment Program aims to protect the global environment and preserve natural resources for future generations. We work to slow population growth by promoting voluntary family planning programs and reproductive health services and supporting women and girls' access to basic rights. We will march to tell the Bush administration that their policies and actions to suspend, restrict and eliminate these live-saving actions are detrimental for the health of women, the environment, and the fragile resources that are being consumed all too quickly by the expanding global population.
