I was listening on NPR to (I think) Mort Sahl talking about writing funny lines for politicians in the sixties. He said that he wasn't hearing anything all that funny from the Dems this election cycle and it had him a little "worried." That struck home with me.
Dems have a comedy gap. Bush is not presidential material. That much is easy to see. But what he lacks in presidential timber, he more than makes up for as a goldmine-level laughingstock. The word-fumbling, daddy's boy who prances around in flight suits and holds up fake turkeys should not be able to show his face in public without people laughing in it.
No, I'm not talking about making it all personal. I'm talking about telling the truth through humor. We aren't doing it. We have truth on our side in our anger, but we need to convert some of it to belly laughs. Bush is a joke. Let's laugh at him.
Don't even get me started on Cheney... If there ever was a pale, flatulent, gas bag ready to have some fumes let out of it, it's Cheney.
