Speculation: John F. Kerry and John F. Kennedy
Today, I'm in a speculative mood. I sit here, staring out the window in solemn appreciation for the fading daylight and the fading winter, and I wonder: will the public perhaps associate Kerry with Kennedy?

The most obvious association is in their names: "John F. Kerry" rolls off the tongue with the same pacing as "John F. Kennedy." Both are Democrats with progressive agendas. Both served heroically abroad in the Navy, and both served domestically in the Senate.

Both are Ivy League graduates, and both are Catholic. They both have spent a considerable chunk of their lives in Boston, and both are married to educated and affluent women who steadfastly support them.

There is an obvious presence and unavoidable similarity with the public images of these two Democrats, and I wonder if these similarities will resonate with the public, or if they will be lost.

What do you think?

(Note: though John F. Kennedy has passed, I speak of him in the present tense as his spirit lives on. I only know Kennedy through his history - I was born 14 years after he was assassinated - but I can still see his legacy working in our society.)

1. Jackie Kennedy wasn't monetarily afluent
She was from a family that had lost its wealth.

Otherwise the parallels are pretty amazing.

2. I remember the day Kennedy was shot vividly
and I wonder if the conspiracy to kill him will ever be made public knowledge. I am almost positive LBJ was involved. I am also almost positive Lee Harvey Oswald was set up.

4. John F. Kennedy was a moral and physical hero who had

always fought evil and made large choices with real impact on segments of the American population which had been all but forgotten.
John Kerry doesn't measure up, if you want to make these asinine comparisons I suggest you learn a little history and look at the man people are calling JFK now. The differences are enormous and undeniable.
If you people don't stop trying to link these two you will anger many real democrats and point out the shortcomings of your candidate. John Kerry couldn't carry watter for JFK little be a good comparison. That's my two cents and no argument or b.s. from anyone will change the truth, try to let Kerry stand on his record if he can't then don't make it so obvious.

9. You will note...
... that I was making superficial comparisons based solely on apolitical topics.

Perhaps you should prepare your discourse to be a bit more apropros to the subject. "Asinine" means "utterly stupid or silly" and "of, relating to, or resembling an ass." My facts are quite demonstrable: both are Democrats, both are Catholic, and so on. You are the only one resembling an ass with your puerile assertions that I should learn history.

When John F. Kerry has made his mark as President, we may compare their records of Presidency and certainly compute some moral relevancy. Until then, my comparisons of largely public image qualities are the most we can, and should, stick to.

12. Rilly?
I've heard here that Kennedy is no hero for supporting CIA coups in Iraq, South America and the attempt on Cuba, that he basically started the Vietnam War, that he pushed aside the civil rights movement because it was discomforting to his legislative agenda (actually, I read that in 'An Unfinished Life'), etc. etc. etc.

Guess I better read mah hist'ry more closely.
